not getting shortlisted. a whinge.
February 18, 2008, 11:14:03 am
currently applying for st1 one jobs in the uk. thats 3rd year medicine to the lay person. anyway i've worked and trained in sheffield since 2001, and did my first degree here. anyway, i haven't been shortlisted, so i'll be moving in august. gutted. on a brighter note, liverpool and leeds have given me interviews and i passed my mrcp part 1 (postgraduate exam, witha 30% pass rate) their loss... :furious: :rtfm:  :boohoo:

Don't sweat it dude, all good things to those who wait & everyone gets what they deserve in the end (more or less).

On the Bright-side trip: Liverpool is a great city, it's close to Wales & the Lakes, the clubs are ace, the women beautiful, it has the Egg restaurant.

Leeds has the best techno outside of Berlin and Madrid; and the bouldering is awesome.

It's all good.

Bummer.

Same thing happened to the missus last year with ST2. She's now in Manchester (and loving it) and applying for ST3s. Sheffield seem to be a bit shite. They ended up short of ST2s desite turning down loads of good doctors who'd trained there.

When the missus was applying for her ST2 she got an e-mail from Sheffield saying she'd got one, then 30 minutes later an e-mail saying she hadn't.

She instantly phoned up to find out what was going on and was told that eveyone had gone home early (within 5 minutes of sending the second mail) as it was bank holiday weekend and they were going away. We spent all bank holiday weekend in the dark as to whether she'd got a post or not.

The Manchester admin people seem a lot more on the ball.

The current job situation is shit.  St posts are like rocking horse shit.  The working environment is awful too.
I'm half tempted to jack it all in and just boulder.  Shame there's the mortgage etc  :'(

sounds like a major shitter Saltus.

Sheffield (and my good self) will be worse for your absence. But as one door closes another door opens (provided the second door is loose enough and the change in room air pressure provides sufficient motive force for the second door). Leeds is a better place to be than Sheffield for routes and bouldering, and you did say you were going to clean up Malham to 8a/+ this year....

Sorry to hear that beefed one. Houdini's right and there's a cracking selection of A grade fools to climb with if you end up here. Best of luck with whichever option you end up taking mate.

Have you been rude to some fatties at work again Axel?

You prefer Malham to the Tor anyway...

Could you get a job at Rotherham General? Or is it an area/authority thing?

Beefy, you are lucky you have been shortlisted for anything- a lot of people haven't and are in an interesting position with no job in August.

I'm in this ST job shit as well, and its shit. I will probably leave medicine in August due to no training jobs to apply to in my specialty. My Mrs has a run through training job in the bag from last year, so I'm kind of stuck with staying in Sheffield. So its either career change or staff grade, or maybe full time bouldering.

Staff Grade/ Article 14 would be utter shit.
32 ST3 jobs in ortho for the UK is an utter joke!!
Whoever invented MTAS is bound for room 101.

Although I think this is all a cynical plan by the Government.

Totally agree I'm not up for the staff grade route, talked about it with people, but stopping my training now and seeing my pals getting fully trained would be too painful. I either get fully trained or leave - thats my view. Problem is the sodding government will make us all look like whingers.

Nice one, but you'd better hope it doesn't get converted to a CT job like most of the NW ST posts.

Come to Manchester. It's good for getting to just about everywhere, plus it will give me someone else to train with. And it's a reasonably nice place these days. And you could buy our flat off us, complete with built in campus board.

Sorted son.

I like Manchester actually. There are a lot of scally twats there but then the same can be said for every major town and city in Britain now.
