Caley crag problem
February 02, 2008, 09:03:42 pm
Does anyone know the name of the problem facing the track, which is above the track, next to the boulder with boot crack on it? it's on the right of boot crack as you look up the hill. It used to be on yorkshiregrit but it's gone, and it's not in the new guide either. With the arete used to get 7a+ and without 7b+.

Also, how hard is Pedestal arete stand-up? Did this today on a strong day so I've no idea.

One more thing- Roof of the World off the undercuts - how hard? It used to get V5 but it seemed desperate for that.

Do you mean Otzi?, which I think is an andy swann problem. I think it was meant to be 7c/7a+ depending on aretage. It is good. I noticed this was unnamed in the guide, from sitting, at 5+ (not having a go, just an observation)

My votes go for pedestal arete standing - 7a+ and ROTW - 7a

Otzi it is - I reckon easy 7a with arete though I never tried it without. Pedestal arete standup is 7a. Not sure about rotw, not done it for a while. How can you compare your tally with GCW? He lanks things!  ;)

Cheeky boy.  Lank rules
UTG:  Was that you at the Cliff Thursday?  Looking surly as you left, and nodded at me as I sat in the car drinking soup?  Fieldside not a goer that day, eh?  Too windy for much.

Ah that was you! Nice car btw. I was rather cold, the cliff was a poor choice that day - gales and snow...

We'd been there since 11, at one pint we had to hide next to Sloper patrol with a mat wall keeping the hail off.  Rather amusingly Andi_e was pinned against a rock by the wind and couldn't move at one pint.  Sniggger (spelt with an extra g to avoid the auto asterisks of sn**ger).
DWR was good eariler on.  Had my first go at it and next time it will be done.  Wasn't too cold once you got going, honest.
Nice to "see" ya.

I'm pretty sure "Matt Birch V5" = everybody else V10...

#10 Pedestal arete
February 13, 2008, 08:28:16 pm
Ok, so I can do this from a stander, and I can reach the big hold on the arete with my right heel on the ledge and my left foot on a small ledge, but i don't seem to be able to move from that position, are you supposed to get the pinch with your left, then cut loose to get your right foot on the foothold as for the stand-up, then move into the stand-up? Seems very hard that way.
