Anyone else massively unconvinced by this?  Not this particular offer but BBus in general.

It's normally twice the cost - and at that price, it makes for an expensive weekend (at least to me it does).

well yes that was what I had guessed, but I'm intressted in what the actual figure is....£100?

Becasue when I last looked at this it came out something like this:

Leave London at 4pm on Friday to go to Luton airport, cost = 1.5 hours of work + £20 return on the train+tube + £70 flight including rucksack and pad check in.

Arrive at CDG, Paris at about 10pm.  Get a train into Paris, 1 across Paris and 1 to Fontainebleau. Cost about £20 return.

It is now 1130 pm and I'm standing at the Train Station in font having spent £110.

Now the closet accomodation option is the etap, this will be another £60 for Fri and Sat eve, and I climb all day at calvaire if I don't want to get a bus tommorow morning, or a taxi right now.

or

Return taxi to La Musardiere - £30ish, if you can find a taxi and ensure he comes back to get you on sunday...and £12 for 2  nights camping.

or

you could get a hire car for the weekend from CDG, for about £70, and stay at the campsite (£12).

so....

£170 for the train/plane/train/hotel option

£152 for the train/plane/train/taxi/camping option

£172 for the train/plane/car/camping option (plus petrol of course)

or

get a tube from work to the bus pick up at 730pm, hop on to blinged up rock star tour bus, dump your bag on your bed, watch hard grit (again), or maybe 300 (again) on the way down to Dover, drink like a fish on the ferry, fall asleep in your bunk, and wake up in the forest, with the smell of coffee and fresh coffee wafting through the bus.....£159, you don't even need to take a sleeping bag, the bunks all have duvets, so not exactley camping either.

...and yes I do work for BoulderBus...but it's all still true.....

i think what houdini is trying to say in a weird twisted way is that this looks like a viable option if you live in the big smoke and are travelling alone. if none of these apply then i think it is quite expensive. hire car between 3 or 4 isn't expensive, neither is flight, neither is formula 1. ie for a party of 4 £15pp car, 60pp flight, £10pp for 2 nights = £85 plus £5 petrol £20 food if you're obese = £110 fri - sun
for what it's worth i think the bus looks good, but i would just make everyone on it miserable

Sadly, it would be more than a couple of extra quid for a northern pickup, as we'd have to put 2 drivers on it (EU regs-we've looked into this but it just dosen't work for a weekend), but we are running busses from Sheffield over the Easter period for our week long trips......£259 including hotel accom and shuttle bus to various areas.

and dense, yup we know it can be done cheaper, but, you know, somethings - like lieing down asleep, are worth paying for.  Personally, I can never manage to sleep sitting up in a car wedged between a sweaty beefcake and a rucksack full of porkpies......actually that is starting to sound more attractive now.......

yup, and that was actually the info I was looking for.  what sort of time do you leave on a friday?  and i'm guessing you get back at f'inearly o'clock on monday(rather than pre midnight sunday).

and that is commitment, driving from up north for a weekend....have you ever flown for a weekend?

dense never has had any trouble before falling asleep next to me and my bag of food

i guess he must feel comfortable around you.....

Well it might be true when  the other areas within walking distance are destroyed by a freak nuclear accident, if it's winter so the shuttle to Franchard isn't running & assuming you don't want to hire either a car or bike but why the aversion to a 5 min bus ride or 10 min train ride?

He was very comfortable when I put my arm round him in the formula 1.

I have both driven and flown for a long weekend. I don't think I would ever go just for the weekend
