trashed tips
December 14, 2007, 11:38:25 am
worked brass monkeys earlier this week... an amazing prob.. but its left my tips in a right mess.. very red, sore to touch and loads of tiny little cuts where the skin has worn through.. mostly from slapping away on what felt like broken glass and probably also a lot to do with getting out on such a brutal problem on the first decent day after what seemed like a month of rain.. never really had anything quite this bad before.. any suggestions for how to make speed up the healing process? really don't want to miss out on the amazing weather we've got up in yorkshire at the mo...

Sandpaper any splits/ roughness/ dead skin and moisturise.
Someone will be along soon to big up climb on.

I gently place all of my trashed tips at exactly the same time against the cool glass of a freshly poured beer. More of a ritual than scientifically proven technique. I haven't compared recovery time to using a glass/bottle of white wine or mug of hot chocolate yet, but I will post the results as and when I do.
That Dream Cream works nicely too. Definitely file off rough and sticky-out bits of skin.

washing your hands with sandsoap and without water (is used to get oil and grease off your hands) helps to get rid of all the dead skin without the uncomfortable feel of sandpaper. works best for the finishing touch, not for the really bad cuts obviously.

i used to suffer real bad from skin just rippin of my fingertips and hands when i climbed and i think the only thing that helped was to constintly ceep my hands moist and never let them get dry thus give them a chance to heal properly
oh and climb on is good

The best thing I've found is Tesco's own nappy cream.

Not any fanny batter, there is something in Ms Pardis' physiology that encourages rhino-hide esque skin growth in the male digit, whilst moisturising and cleansing the foreskin. Sadly the reverse occurs with Kylie as I found to my cost...

Experimented with Boots nipple cream with successful results when applied to tips( or tits). Malc swore by the old Stump cream for amputees or even bag balm for cows udders though I have no personal experience of applying said cream to my udder.
On a similar note a mate of mine who, lets call for the sake of identity protection, Leo Moger, found a wonderful ointment for the removal of sweat from tips. Nay, removal of
production
of sweat from the tips available from Bayer via carrier pigeon. Indeed he said he could not turn the pages of a book as there was no moisture contact twixt page and finger.

try thowing about 50g of coarse sea salt into a hot bath after a climb, i swear by it!
its more than refreshing on dry cracked skin on your hands and feet.
