From the one time I've climbed with Will at yours Andy, he struck me as the nicest guy around - a total beast on the board aged 61 (?).

Mel turned up at the crag the other day - said he'd just started climbing again. His second day out on rock; he warmed up on a 7b route, then disappeared off to look at a new E6 line. ;D

Mick Poignton - The winter climbing legend. The man is a tool wielding machine.

That guy who turned up at the Henry Price wall on a bicycle and then did the whole f7c traverse there and back without a warmup!  ;)

The lancs guide too...

Who was the guy who racked up the E5s and E6s then took up marathon running?

Geoff Hibbert is no slouch.

lakes seems a bit of a backwater too - are the Phizackleas that famous?

And finally a mate of mine...

Martin Dale -  a legend from Fleetwood.

Andy Popp - I voted for you on UKC and we have met in the past (several times, via Pete Chadwick, he who is known by most of the climbing community of the so far discovered world...).

Great but not famous - as Andi e correctly (for once) said - Hank Pasquill. Any who have done Constables Overhang will agree, but beyond that he was so far ahead of the pack at the time in Lancs. Visionary, truely visionary.

Hardly famous compared to dawes/moffat/moon/dunne/etc.

But aye, he's not exactly a mystery man :)

When does well known become famous?

Sorry Andy, of course we've met, I just couldn't remember who'd voted on UKC and didn't bother going back to look.

If we're talking Hank, Ray Evans, who climbed with him a lot, was meant to absolutely brilliant.

Now were talking - my dad raves about the man.  apparently refused to use chalk or anything other than big boots.  take a look at the direct on the big groove for an example of his talent. good and brave.

Nice, some real wads mentioned. To keep it on a bouldering theme, I've seen no mention of Jason Myers yet either on here or on UKC. Le Spectre 8b+ @ Buoux 3rd ascent anyone? Brad Pit, Westworld FA. Plus he fucking dynoed BP (nails!). Jason's Roof FA. Tried it yesterday, very futuristic line for the time, also very hard too. Plus he penned a great article about dynoing in an old OTE. Bona fide legend.

For routes, Matt Donnelly doing Mecca 8b+ aged fifteen has to be worth a mention.

Oh, and for trad, I remember hearing some pretty inspiring stuff about Craig Parnaby. I did a few routes with a guy who used to climb with him, he said that he onsighted The Bells on North Stack one day in about 30 mins of no hesitation speed climbing, then did something else (either Conan or some Main cliff route, I can't remember. It was impressive anyway). Next day Heart of Gold Direct, Shittlegruber, Enchanted Broccoli Garden. Leading all pitches, totally onsight, and at a similar blistering pace. Pretty sure he did an early ascent of Requim, also Totally Wired 9, etc. etc. I couldn't go on because I don't know, but his mate could...

what about huffy? true beast, and i bet no-one on cocktalk could even spell (or pronounce) his name let alone know who he is.

Obviously other ones like a certain sheffield climber who's name we're not supposed to mention (with recently fractured skull), sean myles, simon jones, and our very own nik at work.

Good shout.  He's getting pretty strong again at the moment too.  Or at least he seems to piss everyones lifetime projects down on the board, despite getting twatted the night before etc etc.

He's too elusive to be mentioned.  In fact, I heard he didn't exist.

Matt Donnelly makes Gaskins look like a punter. He's even thinking of campusing walk away. An exageration perhaps but as Ben says he's back in action.

Can't remember the name of the guy who he used to crank with but apparently dispatched a good few fb 8a+'s in his time and quit out of boredom (I think went the story...?) One of the old edge posse maybe.

Dolph's still working out how to turn his computer back on since the last time he turned it off circa a month ago ;)

I think I was the only person to mention Will Perrin on UKC too.
