Lakes meet
June 13, 2007, 09:53:39 am
Right then.

After the obvious success of the Wales meet, I wondered whether a Lakes meet was in order? I'm thinking the best area's would be St. Bees and the Bowderstone, which means an overnight stay or 2 in Keswick would be on the cards. For those who haven't been to the Lakes these are 2 of the best areas, with plenty to go at.

I'm thinking about the the weekend of the 30th June and 1st of July or the 14th and 15th of July. Lets be honest, its probably gonna be red hot everywhere so why not get a tan in Cumbria?! If folks are keen I can ask at some local camp sites for price and availability. I can also check and see what top name bands/artists will be on at the time. One recent headliner was the extremely talented, Lionel Vinyl.......

Cheers,

Mike

I would be psyched for a 3rd trip to St Bees this year as well as a first to the stone!

Is Carrock Fell a bit out the question if it's anything over 10 degrees? I went in 20 degree heat and it was a bit harsh on't skin  :'(

Carrock Fell will be a total waste of time TBH. St. Bees is an amazing place when the sun shines, we just need a few BBQ's, sun tan cream and a few tinnies for it to be perfect!

If you've never been to the Bowderstone, it'll be a good time as you'll probably be hungover from a night in Keswick! Baptism of fire and all that. But on a serious note even with a fuzzy head its still a wicked place to go.

I'll come, I've heard the Lakes is pretty good.

Mind you at that time of the year we're gonna be sweating more than Richard Dawkins on his deathbed.

Count me in Iron Mike, I've got a score to settle with the stone, I just need it to be dry, and not too warm, so June/July should be perfect  :-\

Sounds good to me. We've still got a load of diesel and old railway sleepers here after the Foot & Mouth episode. Maybe we could have a ceremonial burning of the Rockfax bouldering guide at the Cobble.  :devangel: It would save a packet on BBQ charcoal.

I'm afraid perfect conditions may not be available, but like I said it'll be sweltering everywhere so we may as well sweat it out under the stone and top up our tans at St. Bees.

I think you'd like it Greg, I know its a long journey but you should see if you can make it  ;)

Well Jim may be onto a winner with the weekend of the 29th/30th. Weather looks good, very good in fact. Not to hot, sun shining though.

So would folks still be interested if its on that weekend instead?  :-\

Right then UKB masses.

All signs point towards the weekend of the 30th and 31st being good to go. So, I reckon availability and cost of the camp site will be good. Was wondering roughly how many folk may be keen, so I can let the camp site now. If I get a general idea I can armed with some numbers. I'm not wanting signatures in blood, just a rough estimate. I know a few are keen but it would be good to get it semi sorted now.

Cheers,

Mike

I'm a possible - will have to talk to my good lady first. I'm sure there'd be other Llanberisites who'd be keen for some Lakeside action. I'll ask around.

Sounds like the number of folks is getting to a healthy level. I'll try and get some prices for the camp site and figure out which is best i.e cheapest and least stagger from the boozer!
