Hit me with some Sicilian knowledge
March 15, 2007, 10:34:49 am
Word up homes,

I'm off to the land of the original gangsta in April, and have heard that there's some climbing flavaz there. Done a bit of googling and found lots of interesting looking pics, but more of the sites are in italian, and I don't speak it.

From what little I've heard, it seems like a bit of sport climbing might be possible - question?

Grazie in advance.

ciao tommy.
where will you be? remember, sicily has NO motorways except in the external perimeter of the island. theres nice spurt climbing, and also some bouldering, from what ive heard.
let me know, ill search stuff.

ps if this is a first visit prepare yourself for a "peculiar" experience. even i was a bit shocked, but sicilian hospitality is legendary. out for an aperitivo one night i was offered to drop the camping site and stay for the rest of the vacation at the house of some people i just met at the bar!!!

pps eat everything, esp. the sea urchins pasta!!!

Blimey Nibile, that's above and beyond the call of duty - "look at this website" would have done there. That's why I come to UKB.

We're going to be on the east side of the island - 20 mins from Catania apparently. Reckon a bit of sport climbing will be what we're after, I'll give it a look. Will also have to try and get some stamina before then too.

And don't worry about me leaving any food - I live with a guy who's half Italian so I've learned how to eat like a man - in fact I'm more like 2 men now. Apparently "it's a sin to waste good food", and I'm certainly not going to risk going to hell over some pasta arrabiata!

I used to work with some Sicilian guys (one of them was genuinely called Capone) and was over there for about a week every month.
I'll second Nibile re the hospitality - the food is absolutely great and the friendliness is wonderful.
I had a lot of arancini there ( I think that's right - Nibile ?)
Sort of deep fried rice with melted cheese in the middle.
Nice local Chardonnays as well
