Premier Pro can't add a menu
February 27, 2007, 10:24:41 am
Been using Premier Pro to edit a little film I am making and it is all good. Only thing is I need to have a menu at the start of the DVD and P P can't do this. I am pretty loath to spend any more money to buy another package so is there anything out there I could download just to add the menu with? If not does anyone know any cheap software which I could buy to do it?

I do have After Effects or some such jazz but have never managed to get it working (it might not be a 100% legal copy, I don't know ;))

cheers

After Effects would do the trick I'm sure. If you want a bomber copy, drop me a pm and I'll get one to you. I'm A Final Cut Pro user so not overly familiar with Premier, but I can give you a copy.

I'm sure after spending £746 on Premiere Pro you could pay a little more for an Authoring program.   :greed:
If you have PP there are some excellent dedicated Authoring programs around.  Some freeware/shareware products too.  Have a look at www.digital-digest.com or www.freewarehome.com/Home_and_Hobby/DVDs/Authoring_t.htm/

£746 for PP? Jeez

(All the money I have spent so far has been on the camera and such. Making the film for DMM and after all my expenses driving to Wales and buying shiznit my hourly rate is starting to look very small)

Haven't seen anybody use it yet, but the typeface DIN light would make for the most sophisticated of productions. In its regular form, it is the typeface used on ze autobahn signs and also amongst a lot of German civil signage I believe. That seems so extraneous, but if you use it you will have produced an audio-visual golden nugget.

Check me out

Monolith: yeh that is nice. Spent the last few editing sessions just working out what type and colour text to use/can be seen.

Yeah, but you're doing it for love not money.  ;D

ha ha ha

Seem to be getting Affter Effects to work all the 'virtual CD drives' and keygen stuff is pretty much beyond me. MagicDisk seems to be the way forward...

If I was you El Mocho, I'd reduce the opacity of DIN light when using it in your titles if possible. That would look incredibly weapon and your good self look smooth.

P.S. If you continue to struggle with your copy of PP and need another less difficult to install one, hit me.

Whilst you can produce a basic working DVD as output directly from Premiere Pro, you'll be much better off using a dedicated DVD authoring package to do the job. I would recommend Adobe Encore which is designed as a sister package to Premiere Pro and After Effects. Export your finished productions from Premiere Pro as DVD-compliant mpg2 files and then import them into Encore. You can use the Encore tools to create really veratile menus. You can download a fully working trial version of Encore from Adobe's web site if you simply need to use it for a one-off short production (I think its either a 15 or 30 day fully working trial).

Thankyou

after the trauma of installing After Effects I realised it let me make space ships fly around the screen and other silly things but no menu...

Will now try to get a trial copy of Encore (as I am editing on another computer not attached to the net can I download stuff to my removable hard drive thingy and swap it onto the other computer that way? will have a go...)

You usually can but you may need to be online when you install.  You can but try.

Yep, managed to download it to my removable hard drive then install on t'other computer (took about an hour to download) now I just have the 30 days to finish it all off before I loose Encore.

Been working on the video since June/july (most of the time has been spent waiting for DMM to finish off some of the new gear) and with luck I will finish it in the next few days and then may even get paid at some point

Cheers for all the help

Encore is actually pretty easy to use (relative to other Adobe products) and there is quite a useful tutorial to get you started on the help pages - including instructions on setting up menus. Get in touch if you can't get it to do what you want.

good luck with Encore, maybe i'm a thicky but i found it nails to use. In fact Dan Honneyman did all the tricky bits for me.I'm also looking for some decent software, does anyone know if Nerovision is any good?
