A sad day indeed
September 13, 2006, 03:02:15 pm
you won't be seeing a pimped lexus haunting the car parks of burbage/stanage/hooby moor and other world class venues any more. Its just been sold  :'(
good news is I now have a a4 avant 2.5 tdi quattro to replace it  ;D which I'm sure as time goes by will be fully pimped as well. There is so much torque in this car its great going up hills and overtaking. Looking forward to the font trip in nov in it

I only saw it once, but I'll remember it for ever, sitting outside brownstones and thinking "What the...? That can't be Jim..."

New car sounds nice, I want an A4 (or rather S4!) estate...

Ahh, I remember following it in the lakes watching the exhaust nearly hitting the road.. then hitting the road over a bump.  Out of interest, why did you get the audi instead of another?

[guess]perhaps because his status in life is intrinsically linked to the car he drives?[/guess]

wanted an estate and don't like the sportscross (lexus estate) plus a change is as good as a rest.... so they say
also there is plenty more scope for modifying it   ::)

c'mon guys, get real

VANS are the way foreward, bloody huge torque, fun to be a tw*t about town in, loads of space AND you dont raped on insurance

you get a vito van that pulls like fook for less than an impreza that wont get yr house broken into for the keys (experience speaking here).......

sorry, i'm old - and thus being practical.

my impreza before last once lowered and resprung was the best drive of my life, enjoy!!!

I very nearly bought a van but I'll be needing to drive the olds about in it soon enough so they wouldn't like it. plus this has loads more torque than any van I know. one day I'll have a van and a sportscar but in the mean time this is definately the best option all round

main reason for getting a new car was improving fuel economy. really wanted a twin cab pick up truck as well.
might get an a6 in a couple of years, really like the b7 shape a6 avant

Type-R was an interesting choice... but once Jim has his engine remapped I dare say his tdi will be quicker. How's that!?!?! Anyway, the TDI club is where it's currently at, the fuel economy really is astounding. A twin car pick up would have been nice, and if I lived in America it would have been a serious option. The ones in this country are just too shit to even consider.

And there can only be one choice for the next car, a BMW M5. And then after that it will the 911 Turbo. Got to have goals... (realistic ones Jim!!!)

This is probably going to be my next car

Massive pimping potential too. Perfect for roadtrips.

I would love a 330d estate. From 03 on they were 210brake off the shelf, you could easily chip it up to 250-270. Waddage on the motorway, cruise control etc etc. Only snag is that they are fucking expensive. I would love a scooby, but I commute 82 miles a day (round trip), therefore if I bought one I would get murdered for fuel.

The a4 is an excellent choice - loads of room, dead efficient and not that bad looking.

The 335 engine is supposed to be mental - supposedly will out-accelerate almost everything (exotica like Ferraris included) in the midrange. That might be motor-jouro bullshit mind.

I test drove a 330d estate when I was buying my old Golf TDi. It was one of the early ones but to be honest I wasn't that impressed...which is why I bough the Golf.

TBH I think Beemers in general are overrated. I drove a few 320d estates and they were horrible. Slow, leaden and just generally really boring. I've also had an e34 535 sport and an e36 325 which was all blinged up. The 325 was the best but I'm not sure I'd buy another beemer in a hurry, even if I did have the money.

Your Vito is a very nice motor fatters, but it was quite a lot of money, and anything with a modern TDi engine has bloody huge torque. But I am inclined to agree. In my perfect world I'd have a fully loaded van for general use, and maybe a little fun car to satisfy the urge to blast about and to stop me missing bikes.

I've had an unhealthy obsession with this musclebike from the 70's for about 20 years:  The Laverda Jota 180° triple.

The fucker's just too damn big for me though.  Those pipes: this is easily one of the loudest, sweetest sounding  production-bikes ever made.

I figure it may have to be the Montjuic street racer for me though - a damn sight lighter:

Ah, the Italians....  Why do they do it so well?

ah yes,

whippy frames, mushy suspension, weedy forks, spongy brakes, entertaining electrics; the halycon days of 70s/80s motorcycling, two bikes wot some of us aspired to:

the yamaha RD350LC

and the ultimate; suzuki GSX1100 katana

To continue the hi-jack:

Hmmmm...  Release the ponies Smithers!

I get kinda silly whenever I see one of these:  Bimota SB6.  You knows it!

And the ultimate in 60's Cafe Racer Cred, The Norvin.  Again just too freakin' heavy to be anything but a dream.
