New topic time I think.

Rant about some well-renowned classic or just popular problems that you actually think are bloody awful, and why...

I have repeatedly got into a mood trying Not To Be Taken Away. That first move really winds me up, especially being a shortarse.

I've only very briefly tried it with no hope of actually doing it, but T-Crack does seem a pretty crap problem. Nasty holds, well over-chalked, blocks to eliminate, unclear starting positions/variations. Appeals to some people though.

Myself, I can't think of many. The only one that currently springs into mind is the un-classic but popular 3 pockets problem on the Trackside block @ Curbar - traditionally described as a pointless eliminate, even done as a proper line it's just shite, crap, lurchy, awkward climbing of little aesthetic appeal and no technical interest.

I'd agree with NTBTA, though the start is alright.  Its my general lack of strength, stamina, and technique which prevents me finishing the bloody thing.

Strawberries at Curbar, what's the point of that? Frustrating but when you do do it there's no sense of acheivement or enjoyment.

Strawberries at Curbar.

Seconded - was gonna be my first choice, the only people it seems to be popular with are those that enjoy sandbagging novices.

Forked lightning crack at Caley would be my Yorkshire nomination: the chalky slimy polish on the first lefthand hold is disgusting.

Agree with:
Trackside  - Awkward, unpleasant thrutch
Strawberries  - total eliminate
T-Crack - total eliminate

Would add:
Blind Date - unpleasant, bunched going round 2nd lip for me so god knows what it's like if you're normal height.
Danny's Prob - eliminate, painful, edit: on reflection I suppose it's not that pointless as the point is pulling on little holds.

Well, quite.

Personally I quite like Strawberries, it's a nice line, intricate with both finger and feet positions, and has a classic powerful-layaway-with-decent-footholds-to-good-hold move. But I can see why people wouldn't like it.

Still can't think of many more though...

Got a couple more, again not classic, but again unduly popular given they're enough to make you want to give up climbing - Wobbleblock at Burbage Bridge, and even worse the wall problem around to the left, god what fucking awful moves, about as far from "Fun" as it gets.

Are there any dreadful classics elsewhere, or does the Peak (with a hint of Yorkshire) have a monopoly on them? Can't think of anything I've done in the Pass etc that is remotely bad.

can i vote strawberries the most unpopular problem in the peak? not because i've done it before and got completely spanked on it on saturday or anything. at least with trackside you feel glad/relieved you got to the top. (ps was having much fun trying to climb the 6c variant on the rhs of the arete - lots of grunts but not much movement...)

green traverse is awful. wrong and rubbish.

the landings not that bad and its not falloffable anyaway.  West Side Story gets my vote, does anyone really enjoy using a pebble as a handhold? I don't believe it.

Hart's Arete, Pex Hill. An all time classic with the most horible polished yet painful pocket move with polished layaways and polished footholds. The none-pocket variant using just the sidepulls if far nicer..

Cant say fairer than that. To be fair its just a pretty shit problem full stop.

And to add my own nomination

West Side Story - I ask you, what the fucks the point. It nearly became a great problem a while ago but I fell off the last move

Do they have to be in the UK, cos if not I'll throw in

La Joker - I don't care if it was the first 7a in the forest - Load of shite.

Agree on Strawberries too.

I kinda like T-Crack, but I'll agree its crap cos I've failed miserabley on it many times. I think Jerrys traverse (Cratcliffe) is pretty wank too, but maybe thats just me.

C'mon, don't stop there! Abattoire, charcuterie, marie rose etc. etc. - bags of over-rated polished shite the lot of them.
