Leo's right foot
April 24, 2003, 10:20:44 am
Watch Leo Houlding being Leo next Tuesday night on BBC1 at 11:15pm.

PlanetFear on the subject:-
"the film aims to capture Leo’s free spirit and his love of life, whether free climbing the world’s most beautiful mountains or dancing all night at Ibiza parties."

I'm sure he's not responsible for that hideous narrative but it makes me want to tag him 'Zany Leo Houlding' best climber in the world, and crazee party animal - he's soo cool! Bet its a wild night when he gets there.

You missed out:

"...and is a must-see for anyone who belongs to, or is curious about the new generation of climbers, for whom climbing is as much a way of life as it is a sport..."

Puke, WHOAH ! YEAH!! EXTREME!! yeah, it's a way of life.....DUDE !!!

"New generation" my arse - I seem to remember far more doley climbers choosing it as a way of life back in the day, when you could still exist on the dole.

<rant> And before that - talk to real old-timers like Bob Dearman who were off doing alpine north faces and out in the Himalayas for months on a shoestring and that's long before climbers were lucky enough to be able to get sponsorship, kit, etc,/rant>

Calm down Bubba - anyway, no dis-respect to Mr Houlding - he's a great talent, it's just the way these things are marketed makes me wanna boke.

Precisely my point dear friend. I don't know Leo either and I'm sure he's a nice guy, its the shameless comercialisation of our sport that sucks. I guess they're only trying to make it appeal to the likes of people who think Bonnington is Britains best climber.

You wouldn't catch Bob Dearman talking shite, would you Bubba?

My fave was his account of the Eiger North face, with a broken ankle so he couldn't get his shoe on...

It was so f**king cold, you'd get up in the morning for a rest. I turned to Phil and said 'what's for breakfast?'

'One and half sardines.....'

Class.... I must have heard the story a hundred times by now though...

Bob is the man when it comes to his tales of derring do's - that one about him crossing some himalayan border with a gun shoved down his pants cracks me up - the bloke was undoubtably a nutter in his youth.......hmmm.....still is !

It was quite good!

Leo came across well and I came away thinking he was a nice guy. Whilst his being the best climber in the country is highly contentious he's certainly a good lad.

That gave me the fear! You could see the Jose dude was getting psyched out before leaping - and who could blame him, lobbing onto a bolt god knows how high above the ground - and all for fun! Kerazee!

The bit where he wakes up on the ledge was scary too.

Some people just don't care - when I spent a summer in 'Beris as a yoof, the local lads were taking 50ft falls in return for cash, so the tourists could get photos!

I fukin hated it, that image of leo watching the action and drinking over-caffeinated sugary drink company and i thought fuk its becoming snowboarding! Extreme sports to sell some soft drink to punters........
Leos a fukin good climber but when he was with chris bonners i thought there you go modern version of one of bonners expedition, bonners stays at base camp whilst he sends lads off to do some dangerous climbing and then he can write bout how brave and good they were in a new coffee top publication.
 :x
done that jump and it aint to bad , the 'High' one is the more impressive

Its off the top of the conger cave, swanage.
Went there 4 years ago deep water soloing with ang and rich from oz.Did lot of the stuff there and its really good fun. Theres an overhanging jug haul at HVS which is totally safe, great fun.
The top of the cave is 50ft which i did, thers a diving point at 65-70ft known as the acapulco diving point which IS impressive!
The waters totally deep so no probs
