Yep, but I reckon 3 8a's are needed to truely claim the grade.

So what if you skipped 8a and went straight in it 8a+ ;D

everybody who's been mentioned.

whats with this 3 nonsense? where did this random figure come from? if you've climbed an 8a you've climbed an 8a, if you've done 3 8a's it doesn't mean you climb 8a you've just climbed 3 of them. variations on a theme shouldn't count

Just messing about really! But I was under the impression that a bloc referred to problems of similar length to the likes of Sway On as opposed to stamina fests like the High Life.

my own take on it is the same. to me bloc means upwards climbing on a boulder. stamina shizzle means you live near the cave. traversing is just that

traversing is what sets us apart from the animals (except the crab).

In general the cave is not traversing, just long.

8b is the new 8a

Wise words as ever.

While we're on the subject of 8a, is half in the Forest still worth one everywhere else?

What did you do with all that free chalk anyway?

I'm probably being thick but.......

Yeeeeeeah, C'mon, you know you want to lol. I'll give you some money/chalk as well :D

Ned always used to say you couldnt say you'd climbed 8a until you had done rather more than 3. 8b is the new 8a.

think we are confusing 'have climbed 8a' and 'can climb 8a'. doing one 8a would mean you 'have' climbed 8a but if you have climbed three it would imply you didn't just find one that suited you but you found three that suited you. five is probably about right to say you can. except in the peak where there aren't any 8a s anymore. i hope that's clear.

So you have to have climbed:
3 8a's
2 in the Forest
3 in the Wood
1 in the cave
2 in the pass
1 in the Peak (where there aren't any)

I'm thinking we're going to struggle to get 200...

You're maths seems a bit strange there Nik, if you have to have climbed the noted number of 8a's at each venue that would total 9

I feel like I can climb a grand when i've climbed a grade harder. So to do 8a you've really got to have done 8a+.

So how does this affect Mini (above) who has climbed an 8a+ but not an 8a, and it was in the Peak, where there aren't any anyway  :-\

and even if you've done an 8a, you still have to do it 3 times for the proper tick  ;)-
so is it 3x10 or 3x3 8a's + one 8a+ to be an 8a climber?

I thought we'd already established traverses don't count?

Was wondering how many climbers at a guess in the UK have climbed font 8a. (>100??)
More specifically, how many in the North Wales area are currently capable of it?
I am looking for this info. for my Sports Science Research project rather than to boost some ego's.....  :D
  Cheers,
    Irish Nige

To quote the op, he asks for Font 8a ascentionists, not 8a+, or 3x3 8a's in Forest, Wood, Peak, only goes in plumb vertical line (diagonal deviation may suggest a traverse of some kind) and between three and five moves long to avoid potential enduro' claims.

If it's listed as 8a in Ru's bible, 7+8's etc then it is an 8a and anyone having done one of such listed problems fits the op's question, simples.

Now, do I get in ;D ;D
