On a more brutal tip, old school American straight edge hardcore (Youth of Today, Gorilla Biscuits, Minor Threat) was always a favourite on my training board.

Have you heard CIV, panto? Apparently it's the Gorilla Biscuits main dudes new (as of 5 years ago) band. Really good.

CIV is good, they played 60% GB stuff on their last tour. Bit of an ego project, but still good none the less.

Seems quite a lot of ex-edgemen get into playing doom, with ex members of Brotherhood playing in Khanate and Sunn(0))), but of a leap from straight edge to herion-rock

The First Step are doing the late 80s new york thing at the moment, and they do it really well.

God, I never realised so many people were into RAWK. I guess the lack of long hair and eyeshadow at the crag means I have a stereotypical image of rockers.

The ONLY music to train to is the one and only king of freestyle mixing - Harry 9's tape that lives in the school tape player, thundering torrent of beats and then some!

Seriously - the Liebings and Morrillos make excellent training music. I would like the Fuzzy hair remix of Stay by Morrillo as mine please.

i've found kraftwerk's "autobahn" to be really good for some reason...the long, drawn-out flow of the song seems to work for me somehow.

for just getting full-on pumped up and ready to fucking CRANK, nothing beats the UK version of the Clash's first LP, or the first three tracks of NWA's "straight outta compton"

And -- I can't explain this -- Johnny Clegg and Sauvuka's "Third World Child" album always leave me ready to pull....especially the tune "spirit of the great heart" as i'm finishing an eight hour drive across the american southwest...

and finally, of course, ANYTHING by the Wipers will leave the listener frothing at the mouth and ready to CRUSH stone.  great for the steep stuff...like lowball chossroofs in arizona.

and the who's "teenage wasteland".  yhessssssss.

Before my car went to the big scrapheap in the sky i had to chose between 3 tapes (as the radio was bad!) on the way to the crag.

Chemical Brothers, mostly from the singles collection which was great, especially Out of Control

Copy of CD1 from the Tidy TV annual also did the job.

The last tape was  a mix of tracks from Air, good for on the way back, but not going to the crag.

Really Martin, its not like you to be shouting at old ladies, although your avatar must be an old picture of you due to the lack of bicep definition!

That section on the UNKLE - 'Big Brother is watching' mix album is pretty sweet- From DJ Shadow (track off Rampage) to the rework of QTSA - ' feel good hit of the summer' is. Especially the hip-hop (dunno who it is)/ Tears for Fears - 'Shout' track.

Hmm really depends ont he mood,

The intermezzo from the Karelia Suite when blasting up to 'The County'

Kashmir, when blasting across any moorland with the brakes fading, gives real meaning to live fast die young.

Cumfortably numb, when blasting down the payange to Font.

Pretty vacant when blasting down the road between isatis and cuvier.

Gost Town when blasting  out of leeds to Caley

Like a hurricane when bimbling down the road to the grouse after some fine grit.

Meh, I'd rather people didn't listen to drum and bass at all, than they listened to cheesey clownstep :/

I haven't been psyched for months anyway.

My current repeat players...

Scratch Perverts - Fabriclive (usual Scratch Perverts mix up)

Nextmen - Blunted in the backroom (all reggae and dancehall uber classique shit)

Jurassic5 - Power in Numbers (finally got round to getting my own copy of this)

Da Goats - Tricks of the Shade (From waaaay back but possibly the finest hiphop album ever made.  No make that definitely)
