Yorkshire - a boulderers paradise.
October 18, 2004, 12:53:41 pm
As some of you might have twigged, theres a new crag or four about in Yorkshire, not new as in the almighty has just made them but new in terms of bouldering venues.
I found one while walking with my Mum (she belongs to a walking club and as a leader has to walk her walks out, I keep her company and read the map - she is 73). I couldn't get close but told Jon about it anyway, he went this weekend and evidently it looks like a good bouldering venue.

The other week I had a day off, and as it was raining I went exploring another area, found three good little crags which I hope will again yield some good bouldering.

Anyway it'll take a while to get the lines bagged and for lazy twat to draw the topos, so be patient and keep your eye on the web.

In the meantime there is always Great Whernside to go at.

Can I join your club FH?

Finally managed me newbie on Panorama Crag today - That's near you isn't it?
Also bumped into the Lady that lives at "The Nookings" who seems to own the land. I scared the living daylights out of her falling off the top move as she was walking her dog. As a courtesy, climbers should let her know they're off to the rocks - It's the house on the right just after the parking opposite the church. The YG guidebook doesn't mention this though.

Not got a name yet, but I did video it as I was on me tod, and I have to say it's proper class. Just three holds up an off vertical wall at 7B+ (is that v7?), although lanky gits might find it easier, or maybe harder.

I need a new project now so get in touch!!

Crappy video still of top move - looks shorter than it is really 'cos camera was on floor looking up. Bigger 'pop' than a little sparkle!

Only one of the best, you could do it with out a mat!

Flat, no rocks leaves and beach nut shells.

Pop for the hold beneath the top - I've seen the bird before but something must have eaten it - it wasn't there yesterday.

'Pheonix Wall' it is! I'll guess at V8.
I'll try and get the first ascent vid over to Jon at YG - hopefully inspire someone to go tick it.
Stuff like this and 'A little sparkle' / 'PokATok' need more pub. as leftfield problems - They're as good as any similar prob's in Yorks and the Peak but folk don't make the effort nowadays. :(
On a similar note - I went to see Fluide as Jon suggested the other day, unfortunately the top was wet so I didn't try it.
I know the access situation is unclear but again what a line! Has anyone else done this?

Funny enough I went to look at pok a tok yesterday....it was damp. So I went to Brimham for a change (two uni groups and loads of tourists).

In the afternoon we (wife & kids) went for a walk, funnily enough via Pheonix Wall (pheonix nights would of been funnier), I'm prtty sure having seen the cleaned holds , I know how you did it. If it's dry one afternoon this week I'll be there.

Have you sent jon the video yet?
