Northern Spain bad weather
November 06, 2019, 04:57:19 pm
Flying to Santander tomorrow morning for climbing around the Poo de Cabrales / Desfiledero de Hermida area. Forecast looks terrible and wondering if the ukb massive can give any advice on areas with say 3-4 hrs that may be worth a shot given the current conditions.
Only have 5 days, we've got an apartment in Arenas de Cabrales but might consider relocating if it's looking like a lost cause there.

I know it is not what you asked but Costa Blanca is about 8 hours drive but looking set fair for the next couple of weeks. Might be worth biting the bullet and heading south.

If the steep crags are dry they are surely going to stay dry?

It looks like most of the rain will hit the north cost + the pyrenees proper. Rodellar should not be too affected, but I don't know if it is already wet from last week?

Pedriza? Patones? I don't know if they are any good, I don't travel that far. But Madrid should be within 4 hours.

Cuenca is closer than Costa Blanca.

Mate was in Desfiladero 2 days ago on FB he said "Sadly all tufa at Rumenes were still dripping from the previous weeks rain.... back to pocket pulling.... thankfully some good routes"

Is that any help?

Helpful, thanks. Wondering if forecast looks worse than reality..
Would you be able to Pm your mate’s contact? So we could ask him if it’s worth sticking or driving south.

If you’re making plans to go elsewhere I can’t see la Pedriza being much cop in heavy rain.

Dry quickly though, unlike tufa crags. And Madrid weather looks OK.
