Minor rockfall Raventor
May 08, 2019, 01:04:37 pm
A rockfall from above the right side bouldering at Raven Tor has been reported to the BMC by a member living in Litton Mill with what he described as half a dozen breeze block sizes lumps hitting the road with enough force to cause some damage to the road surface. He surmised that it had probably originated from above the bouldering on the right side of the crag and that potentially there might be more loose rock waiting to drop. A warning has been added on RAD: https://www.thebmc.co.uk/modules/RAD/View.aspx?id=4398

Is there any chance that someone on here visiting the crag in the near future could take a look (preferably on abseil) and determine if any further looseness remains??

Quite a job that, Jon.

I was very nearly hit by a smaller rock as I bent down to pick up my chalk bag. It hit my boot rag, which was right next to it. That was beneath/near the start of The Toilet.

A whole section of the top break - similar area IIRC - fell away, while traversing off some time ago.

I'd suggest that the whole right wing - from say Sardine RW - ought to be looked at.

Happy to help if anyone else wants to join in.

If whoever inspects it could pull down the entire right hand side of the tor and uncover a nice bit of rock instead that'd be ideal.  ;)

I noticed last week a sizeable amount of  dirt had fallen down and landed on the tree that is behind rattle n hump. Definitely must be some loose stuff up there

I was belaying mark at the time - it caused quite a lot of shouting that did!
