when you were sixteen

as we've all been giving fingers a bit of stick.i thought it might be a good for the rest of us to go back and revisit this wonderful age.

for myself i'd been working for a year.spending my time watching leeds united and getting chucked out of pubs for looking about 12.depite being dressed in levi sta press, ben sherman and my crombie overcoat.

the wonderful world of rock climbing was waiting 12 months in the future.

Biffing up trad VS's in stylish troll trousers, huge glasses and bad hair. Climbing trees, being nature boy, watching Stone Monkey over and over, not pulling, planning my escape from Alfreton.

Can't remember, but I think cider and whiskey were heavily involved.

Please - it was the Boer War in my time whippersnapper.

I seem to remember a lot of dodging gnarly Hereford skinheads too.

Camping in a cave at Stanage for ages - toproping The Tippler!
Hanging out in scruffy Lancashire quarries (Denham, Anglezarke, anybody?), writing a bouldering guide to the sea front walls at Blackpool (the mould was set early), frantically doing pull ups on all the door architraves in the house, going to the Lakes every weekend, dossing in the old Ambleside wall (did any of you ald cnuts climb here. I remember thinking it was better than real climbing at the time - eh, Fingers! I actually made the leap from leading VS to E2 when I was 17 after a winter on said wall), running up and down lakeland fells and bumbling up winter routes.

Seem to remember drinking a lot of Merrydown cider for some reason.

yeah - hanging out in the hope valley, relying on parents for lifts to buxton to  see me girlfriend walking up to stanage from hathersage, soloing all around the rusty wall area after getting off the school bus in me 'lince 2'  (????) boots, and being overjoyed when I got me first pair of ninjas.

drinking to much, dossing in caves at symonds yat, doing my first vs  lead Y Broga at tremadog, dressing in a very odd manner, climbing on the back of the castle Green bogs with Bubba.
The next year was when the climbing bug really grabbed me, i have to say some impressive bumbling was done in this year

16: Anti-social, cynical, yet to discover rock climbing, into painting lead figures and death metal.

Now: Anti-social, cynical, still as much of a punter as before I started climbing, into painting lead figures and drum&bass.

No I was anti-social AND I happened to paint lead figures....some people would link the two but most of my few friends were gamers too (though they gave it up when they grew up   )

Actually. What I really meant was "un-sociable" or "socially inept"...ummm yeah

i think its cos they sterotype of person is generally quite insecure, probably wedy, picked on a bit at school or something like that. thus the percepthion of having a larger shoe size somehow means they are bigger, better, sense of inflated self esteem or the like.
