Stinky shoes
March 15, 2017, 01:55:57 pm
For some reason I'm going through a phase of having shoes that absolutely stink. Any beta on how manage this? I've read that kitty litter in tights is good. Or vinegar / baking soda. All of which sounds a bit whack.

I can attest to the kitty litter one. But its easier to just fill them with it (get non clumping) and then just pour it out when you're done

Depends on your preference. Fight fire with fire (or stench with worse stench)

The Boot bananas do work but I find the 'Jeyes fluid' like smell of them almost as bad as the stinky shoe smell.

A mixture of kitty litter and activated charcoal in a sock with the end tided off then placed in each boot works a treat and costs pennies.

I've read that kitty litter in tights is good.

Do i need to be wearing the tights at the time?

Basically what you need to be doing is killing off the bacteria causing the smell, or else the smell will just come back after you have filled them with kitty litter or whatever.

When boots are not being worn they shouldn't be in the bottom of a pack where they were put sweaty and warm and foisty from the day before. leave them somewhere where they can get some air and sunlight to them so the moisture can leave them.

I've heard tea tree oil can help too, it's a natural antiseptic. And putting them in the freezer to kill of bacteria.

I went and bought some knee length tights and kitty litter from Wilkos today. £3. We'll see how I get on. Activated charcoal sounds sensible too.

What's changed for me is that I've worn crocs w/o socks almost every day for the past decade. Unless it's snowing or the walk-in is gorse-ridden. Now I'm doing a lot of cycling to work, and wearing socks and proper shoes as a result. Feet be getting stinky.

Tea bags are all you need, one or 2 in each shoe, replace them shortly before they break open.
Cheap, works a treat.

Really? Well well. Still good for a brew after? Asking for a friend.
