The April 2017 issue of the BMC Peak Area Newsletter is now online, keeping you informed about what’s happening in the region, including details of the next BMC Peak Area Meeting.
In this issue: There’s an interview with hill walking rep Peter Judd, and Peter provides the latest hill walking news, including a new strategic plan for the BMC’s hill walking work and proposals for Mend Our Mountains 2; Julie Gough from Friends of the Peak District tells us about a new 190-mile walk around the national park boundary; Carl Bedson encourages you to report your sightings of mountain and brown hares, and Chris Moor encourages you to use your vote at the BMC AGM, which includes a motion of ‘no confidence’ in the Executive; plus the regular round-up of access and conservation news by Henry Folkard, climbing news and gossip from Dave Parry, and Luke Barley’s update on the work of the National Trust in the area
Peak Area Meeting: 5 April
The next Peak Area Meeting is on Wednesday 5 April 2017, starting at 7.30pm, at The Maynard, Main Road, Grindleford, S32 2HE
Come along to our regular gathering of Peak climbers and walkers, to discuss the latest issues and get involved in the work of the BMC. Area meetings are run by volunteers and are your chance to join in with debate and influence decisions about what happens in your area as well as the rest of the country.
The major talking point of the meeting will no doubt be the motion of ‘no confidence’ in the BMC Executive Committee, which will be voted on at the BMC AGM on 22 April – members can also vote by proxy if they won’t be attending the AGM; and Simon Lee, our commercial partnerships manager, will be at the meeting to talk about and discuss affinity partnerships.
Maddy Cope talk
Guest speaker for the evening is Sheffield-based rock climber Maddy Cope. Maddy is a talented all-rounder with a varied CV including hard trad and sport routes, big walls and alpine rock.
Free supper provided by the BMC. All are welcome.
