Venice, heatwav, solo??
July 08, 2015, 11:25:20 pm
I have a dilemma (serious first world problems)  -  my girlfriend has had to cut our euro van trip a bit short as she has to go to a friend's dad's funeral. I have 3 days to fill after dropping her off in Venice before I meet a friend in the dolomites and i really need some more climbing to get me in shape for our target (brandler hasse).

Ideally i'd like to find a partner and do loads of F7a onsighting,  or maybe some long dolomites routes but I doubt that'll happen. Any thoughts? It's still roasting so bouldering woud have to be at altitude and not too crimpy (still recovering from a tweaked pulley).

Random hookups in the Arco Campground?

Find a climbing gym with a circuit board?

3 days of not climbing shouldn't make much of a difference though...

I will be in Canazei this coming weekend, for some more bouldering in Città dei Sassi.
Let me know if you're interested, I know the place pretty well and can point you at whatever is close to my projects.
 ;)

Nibs,  if I can drop the missus off early enough i'll maybe try and catch up at Canazei. How late in the day do you nornally stay until?  Otherwise arco could be a shout or some via feratta.

As late as muscle fibers, hunger and Summer storms allow.
In any case, in Campitello - a few km South of Canazei in the valley - there's a huge climbing wall with massive lead and bouldering.
When are you going to come over from Venice?
I'll be up North from toniht until Sunday.

If you ever need to find Nibs in a huge maze of boulders, just walk around aimlessly for half an hour until you hear distant screams of rock-shaking power.

Cheers for showing me round - going to head back up tomorrow and fail miserably to get up that problem.

Ahahahahahahahah!!! My pleasure!!!
Get it done! You will!

P.s. The hut down the boulderfield, Malga Sella, is awesome. Kaiserschmarrn, speck, eggs, yogurt, cheese, canederli, etc. etc.  ;)

Went back up today with some other boulderers I found in the campsite. Didn't go back to that 7c but managed to flash (well, kind of flash...) a simple 7a (Roadkill) I flased it with my hand in the first pocket (easily reachable from the mat) but decided to do it with both hands low and flashed it from there. I'm taking it.

Then went round and found a fun 7B roof called "Flors Problem" which went with a bit of good footwoark and some brute force. I think I have found my bouldering forté - steep dolomite!

Brilliant!!!
Steep dolomite is where it's at.
Roadkill is a very nice problem, and quite stern at 7a!
On the right of it there is a very nice problem that starts from good holds down low, goes up RH to a slopey pinch/crimp then left and up again.
Very nice and basic! And the roof of Guerrilla (where you were before hearing my scream) has two very good problems.
Have fun!!! You'll crush the Brandler-Hasse crux!!!  ;D
