Lanzarote bouldering
July 08, 2015, 05:25:26 pm
Hoping someone knows of an indoor wall on the Island, or some bouldering local to Playa Blanca, had a look through some old threads on both channels without much joy. Heading out tomorrow for a couple of weeks, and just looking for something to keep ticking over. Any info much appreciated.

In hindsight shouldn't have left the missus unsupervised to book the summer holiday.

Thought that might be the case, i'm just clutching at straws i guess. Sounds like surfing might be the way to go.

There is bouldering on Lanzorote, Neil who does the Font Vids used to have a web site Canary climbs and there was a topo on there. However it's now defunct. You could try emailing him, I'm sure you could google him to find his email.

Went there albeit in feb.  Guess it might just be toooooo hot to climb there.

Got to dash, but will post some pics up if I get chance.

This place does look good, might look into hiring a car. Yeah the heat would usually be a problem but after just getting back from a week in a very sweaty Font it might feel comparatively cool! 42 degrees a couple of days running, went to the waterpark at Buthiers, paid to get in, found out it was speedos only no swimming shorts....... what do you do?

I've bouldered in Tenerife in April, well in the 20s but its low humidity. Just  climb in the shade or strip down to your boxers.

Swim in your y fronts? Nip to Decathlon? I reckon you could do some good business selling speedos out the boot at the car park to visiting Brits.

Guess a search on Google didn't throw up this for you, damn search bubbles...

Wrong island, but probably as good a place as any to ask about climbing on neighbouring islands.

Simply put a ring of masking tape around your waist and the top of each thigh - then spray paint over your nether regions and arse. Simple! (you get to choose the colour too!)

We might end up in Lanzagrotty next feb or easter. Whats the rock quality like at that crag? Spring temps manageable?

Same thing happened to us. The waterpark are more than happy to sell us some themselves. I've been a speedo convert ever since.

Dave, the rock quality is really good. I expected a kind of pumis/basalt with high friction, whereas it feels and climbs like a really hard limestone, with good sharp solid edges and pockets. The friction is lower than you expect, but if you're used to peak limestone, then you'll be reet.

Landings are reasonably good mostly, but it does feel a bit remote, I was on my own and you cant be seen from anywhere.  Didn't seem like there was anyone for miles around and a badly twisted ankle could see you in a bit of bother as the walk down the dry river bed is all a bit scratchy.

It faces East I think, but being a horseshoe shape, bits will always be in the shade/sun.

I was quietly impressed.

The bit drainage culverts under main road nr where you park have some bolts and drilled holds in.  Very esoteric.

I'll add a couple of pics and a vid to the thread  when they're uploaded.

Thanks for the info everyone. Didn't get any climbing done unfortunately. More than happy to have learnt to surf and not put too much timber on though.

Won't get blindsided on the holiday destination next time.
