I couldn't be bothered risking it in the snow. What were the Stanage headlines – just North Lees, or anything else?
Apart from knocking back the North Lees Campsite closure there seems to be a lot of behind the scenes machinations engineered by Mary Baggeley with options mooted including a Trust being set up potentially with the backing of a bigwig Sheffield businessman presumably wanting to immortalise themselves. Henry points out that the Peak National Park was set up primarily for open air recreation and this set up would be against the spirit of National Parks and the fragmentation of the Peak Park into management groups compete for volunteers and money would be contrary to having a holistic strategy for the Park.
What a refreshing contrast to have the National Trust Eastern Moors Partnership Manager Ted Talbot talking about their active land management activities here (as well as on Kinder) thoughtfully balancing ecological and varied recreational usage. I gather the NT will be taking on Hounkirk area which with a boundary change includes Millstne Edge which is great news.
Meanwhile Peak Park authority/bureaucracy seem unable to move off first base with regard to finance let alone come up with a coherent land management plan. Apparently they have made an encouraging appointment of Rebecca Newman as "Mrs Stanage" but she seems o be pulling her hair out already.
