I don't think it can be me since I basically only ever climb on lime. You need someone with lime-leaning tendencies but who spends their winter on the grit.

Somebody needs to grab this bastard by the balls pronto! I'm itching to get on PUTP again but can't be seen trespassing in the off season.

Perfect candidate. You do not choose yourself, you are chosen :)

Over here in the Wales it's already happened. Doylo and Robins packed their bouldering kit away last week. It's all ropes and being extra nicey, nicey to potential belayers now:

Second that motion for reasons stated.

Just needs to be signed off by the old guard and it's a deal?
I nominate abarro81. Perfect candidate IMO. Young, keen, strong and a slightly cynical jaded outlook that belies his age.

Pete Whittaker has asked me to put his name forward for Lime Caller.

I find that highly unlikely and you're both abroad   :chair:

Thirded for Alex. You're in. No fucking about though. This is serious..

Reading all this made me realise I've fallen out of love with the lime. I'd rather be shimmying up brown rocks. Limes ugly and it hurts. Grit gets you out onto the edges and climbs nicer.

The advantage of lime though is that once the seepage has abated, it's easier to find dry rock.  I can't remember the last time I managed to climb grit on both Saturday and Sunday - and even the few snatched days I have managed were generally a bit desperate (either wet or windswept).  The lime season is a boon to the weekend warrior... belayer availability permitting.

Think someone has hacked Dobbin's account. Either that or he's left his computer logged in and this is some sort of sick practical joke.

The tortoise wriggled free from its cage whilst being driven to the knackers yard by Dobbin and tapped out its last (cutting) missive... :(

Take heed idiots, Dobb-egg has seen the light! Actually don't, the good crags are busy enough as it is.

Right then. I'm prepared to take on this most serious of duties if the people say it should be so. But, the first question on every peak lime lover's lips is the first on mine: "What are the rules?" For without rules we are nothing but line-chasing, luck worshiping scrittle merchants who consider aesthetics to be more important than there-and-back traverses. Fuck that I say. Fuck that.

So I presume that only peak lime is under consideration (otherwise the lime is going to be called around early Jan most years)? I might need some tutoring from Mr Harris to perform my duties acceptably.

Im glad that's sorted, now what medium do I climb this weekend, is it called?

No, it's not called. Mecca is still wet for starters. But you should still spend your weekend on the lime.

That's a great post. All I ask for in this world is clarity. I'll be off to Malham and eagerly awaiting the calling.

At least you won't have to face your fears on Mecca again  ;)

I'm happy to announce after some discussion with the man himself yesterday, that Dobbin has experienced his own special road to Damascus moment and has suddenly worked out that Peak limestone climbing is shite and the grit is where its at. He has finally got weak enough to be able to climb some of grits finer offerings and its dawned on him that applying brutal power to polished crimps isn't enough for a truly satisfying climbing experience. It's taken a while, but he got there in the end. Three cheers for Dobbers  :icon_beerchug:

Traditionally the limestone caller must be young, strong, technically dense, useless on the grit and obsessed with training, which rules out most of the folk on this forum (due to the fact that you have to be young.....)

So my vote goes to albarro81  ;)

I would like to ask you if you can still look at yourself in the mirror after such a betrayal of personal beliefs.
Sometimes the Romans punished traitors by putting them in a big sack with a dog, a cock (eheh), a viper and a cat and throwing the whole thing in the Tevere river.

That's harsh Nibs - may as well just send him up a gritstone chimney. Less effort for you and same effect for him.

A gritstone chimney is a punishment so cruel that not even my ancestors had conceived!

My comment was sarcastic, by the way. I genuinely think Dob is not serious about the lime.

No, I believe him and I don't think he should be mocked at such a difficult time.

Last year's Facebook farce has obviously scarred him deeply, to the point where he's gone completely insane.
