shoe glue?
February 11, 2013, 12:34:46 pm
Hi

a good fellow UKBer is posting me a couple of used pairs of climbing shoes in which the toes have just gone through, for my daughters use, and it's definitely much appreciated.

Are there any other recycling/menders who can advise what glue is best for patching old rubber to patch up the toes.

Thanks

Best off just getting them resoled.  I've tried Shoe Goo before but it just peels off.

Current favourite (not just of mine but others is Llanberis resolse.  Before that Cheshire Shoes.  Also Feet First are another option.

Not used it on shoes but I remember oldmanmatt said mcnetts black witch wetsuit-repair glue was the dogs danglies. Never used it on shoes but it's black, rubbery, flexible and pretty strong too, it currently holds my rear-view mirror to my windscreen (don't ask). Only costs one fuckall whereas getting them resoled defies the point of a freebie pair of kids shoes since it'll cost more than a new crap pair.

Thanks

that black witch definitely looks worth a punt. Cheap too.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Looks useful to have about the house anyway

Yeah, last thing you want is to find a tear in your gimp suit just as you are leaving for work :)

Especially if your gimp suit is your work

I´ve glued around on several pairs of shoes.
Once a pair of rockette´s peeled off because of the heat and i needed to reglue the toe rand on a point where they get stretched a lot. I used Loctite PowerFlex and it´s still holding after one year.
I also glued the Tip of a katana which peelded off with loctite and it also lasted as long as the rubber made it.
If you clean and prepare the surface of the rubber before glueing this one will hold. And its available in every Supermarket for € 3.

The heel of one of my shoes is peeling off. What glue would be best to stick it back and keep it there? I'm guessing it'll need to be resistant to some quite big shear stresses if I'm pulling down on my heel because it's rolling when I put it in things now.

Update: I used thrashhard's suggested PowerFlex and it's adhered well. Could do with a bit of reshaping of the rubber so it's more flush, anyone got any tips on how to reshape and flatten the rubber?

That won't change the fact that as the edge of the rubber has eroded, the edge is now quite thick...
