Cheap North Face down jacket?
October 15, 2012, 06:27:39 pm
Has anyone on here bought anything from this place?

http://www.northfaceforwomens.co.uk/uk086-north-face-mens-nuptse-down-jacket-yellow-p-61.html

This seems very cheap. Are there fakes around? Cheers, Si.

That site looks like a scam to me. No address, bad english and lots of bits copied off another site selling Nikes.

Quote
Q: Why are shoes on your website much cheaper than other websites?

A: The online shoes environment is competitive. There are many established vendors out there with years of experience and repeat customers backing their success. We are a new entry to the shoe-game and we want to stay here for a while. Because of our desire for success we are taking a chance by slashing our profits and taking losses to generate customer loyalty -- we know once you buy a pair of shoes from us, you are not going to be shopping anywhere else.

Chinny reckon.

I've been very happy with my Alpkit Filo down jacket

£95 on their website, but they seem to be out of stock again

I had to wait for stock to arrive to get mine (email alert or something like that), but worth the faff

Thanks for the replies. I thought it seemed a bit dodgy.
I'll have another look round.

Decathlon have a pretty shit one for £40 from £100? I think it's relatively light, but not particularly warm. Better off with a synthetic to be honest. But it's cheap.

I would employ my longer bargepole. Second lager's Alpkit recommendation, bad time of year to be shopping for them though.

I tried on them in Decathlon and they felt pretty good. of the lightweight genre - but decent for £40 sheets... nearly got one for me Mums xmas present... (she loved her furry lined mini wellies the other year..)

I've got one of those Decathlon ones. It's no Rab but perfectly decent for not totally Baltic conditions.

Id second Rabs factory outlet in Alfreton, Derby. Its a bit hit and miss with what they're got in stock, but you can make a good saving.

LD have a sale on at the moment. Might be worth checking there:

http://www.ldmountaincentre.com/

ICE21 got me 20% off but I also saw ICE20 so it might be worth checking that.

Are the cheaper 'lightweight' down jackets any good, or is it the usual case of you get what you pay for?

I've a lightweight Rab down jacket I bought for Peru which was fine (although it was part of a layering system anyway used at night after sundown and on the handful of early mornings when we went up summits and had to gear up half-way up).  Genuine down, it has smaller cells and less down so its not as bulky, but then not as warm as a huge down jacket.

No idea about cheap equivalents, but it was £80 from Outside at the time of purchase.

...it was part of a layering system...

That really is their intended use, as insulation whilst on the move. For standing around in, one with bigger baffles (e.g. Rab Neutrino Endurance) would be much warmer.
