I would quite like a merkin with UKB and [wad] on it.

Would prob go for a top especially if it was nearer the £30 mark, if Climbing Works put more cash to it and it becomes dirt cheap would get a long sleeves but otherwise need to save my hard earned cash. (ie not spend all my wife's wage on shit we don't really need - she gets narky)

I'm keen, although I think they'd look even better if they had a Climbing Works logo on each sleeve - I'm sure we'd chip in for the printing costs then too.......as long as that curmugeonly old bastard Alderson is in agreement. I'm not sure that he'd want one though - we've yet to find any clothes that achieve a skin-tight fit on Graeme....!

If you can find me a corkscrew with a Works logo on it then I will consider the deal. Bishton would have to pay full price though.

Before we get carried away, has anyone asked shark/thesiger if they're cool with this? I can't see why they wouldn't be, but it's always nice to ask.
I guess it depends whether we have to organise it, take the inventory risk, etc or whether this is independent of us? If it's independent, the only thing I'd say is that some adherence to the current "ukb" logo would be good: arial and lower-case. Shark may have some other issues?

[wad][punter] is great.

It is it just me or is the current ukb (arial lower case) crap.
Lower case is good, but arial is shit.
Don't take it personally. I like everything else.

(Ruining my fucking life, that logo)

All those who are thinking of dropping out of the FD les 2 alpes trip should have a special edition one:

Can't remember now, but it probably was my choice...

So what's the problem with Arial apart from it being widely used? I'm not a font geek by any means and have no background in design/graphics/etc.

Though I understand the hatred for Comic Sans I don't see a problem with using a font that is easy on the eye just because it's common as muck. Please explain why Arial is "shit"?!

I don't even ride a bike (yet) and I'd consider buying one of these. Great design.

It's just boring I think.  Everyone uses it, so it doesn't look cool.  Bit like trajan on movies:

I think Arial is disliked because it was created by/for Microsoft - they wanted a basic sans-serif font and were too cheap to licence Helvetica.  So, at least in typography circles, the disregard for Arial isn't aesthetic - it's  more of an anti-corporate / respect for inventors stance - a distaste for cheap imitations.

From the voting it looks like UKB should be considering a customised French pastry - perhaps something savoury with Henderson's Relish in?

Hmm lots of interest.

I will organise this if no-one else will. However, I do live in France, which may lead to slightly higher postage charges and comedy bank account problems...

For the design, someone who has some kind of design experience and/or skill could take over? If not then after the overlords comments and Percy's offer I guess we're looking at:
diagonal "ukb" on the back (lowercase arial)
"[wad] [punter]" across the pockets (lowercase arial)
"ukBouldering.com" around left sleeve
Climbing Works logo somewhere - right sleeve? (insert design/corporate sponsorship objections here) PERCY - CHECK YOUR PMs
"ukb" on the front (maybe large and centred, left hand side, diagonal too - not sure)

When I get on a decent sized computer tomorrow I'll have a couple more goes at designs - I'm not sure how the front will look and I'll try and do something with the CW logo.

After that I'll get some quotes and an idea of minimum order quantities.

Arial: The font of inter-departmental memo's.
At least choose a font that's dire, not just dull.
Actually, I think comic sans looks quite good for ukb, but hey, shoot me...

As I say, thanks for all the hard work, love the site yadaa yadaa

I believe that is Verdana not Arial.

I was thinking of Arial - though on investigation it seems it seems it was designed as a Helvetica rip-off for IBM and/or Xerox.  Microsoft just promulgated it, selecting Arial as they were too cheap to licence Helvetica:

http://www.ms-studio.com/articles.html

Not sure if the same applies to Verdana, which was directly commissioned by MS but doesn't look much like Arial.  It wouldn't surprise me if MS even plagarised acts of forgery!

Palomides I'm very glad you've put your hand up to organise this! I guess it needs some discussion with The Works and then some quotes to come back. As far as postage is concerned we'll need to know whether they will want to dispatch them all to one address or whether they can do individual postage. If they won't post to Oz I see no reason why it can't be delivered to a UK address then forwarded on so long as the Down Under dwellers are happy to pay.

I haven't forgotten this - getting artwork & prices from suppliers at the moment. Hold tight.
