South Lakes camping
March 13, 2012, 09:18:43 am
I'm looking for a place to camp around Silverdale / Arnside around the end of the month. I just need basic facilities and a place to put my tent and car. Most of the places around there are more like holiday parks and are quite expensive. Gibralta Farm looks ideal but they tell me they won't open until the 30th March this year. The cheapest option I've found so far is a camping pod at Fell End caravan park at £25 per night. Any ideas?

I found a fairly low key site in Silverdale (google 54.18221,-2.842058) but having paid I discovered there weren't any showers. After that I went back to wild camping and using the excellent free showers at Tebay truckstop.

Yeah, that's Hollins Farm. It's expensive at £23 per night. Are you sure they didn't have showers down the road in the caravan park?

Not when I was there maybe five years back, but it looks a lot bigger now. Over-priced camping seems to be endemic in the Lakes. Will probably stick to wild camping or B&Bs in the future - competition seems to be a bit healthier for rooms whereas the camp sites seem to be in a cartel.
