Boreal Ninja
February 19, 2012, 10:16:21 am
Does anyone use the new version of the Ninja?

Back climbing again and need a new pair of boots. At the moment I am not bothered by ultimate performance but something that is fairly comfy to wear on the woodie and bouldering. Ninjas always suited me so I was thinking about trying the new model. How do they compare to the old ones? (ie proper BITD green ones). Do they stretch as much? Are they as flexy? Are they as comfy once broken in?

Cheers

What size are you? I've got some green ones, that I've only worn once, bought in about 95'. I assume the rubber would still be O.K.

Would be interested if they are size 5.

I've a pair of mocasym2's which are the nearest thing to an old skool ninja I've found.. Super soft smear monsters :)

I've used and worn out a pair of original Ninjas and the new Moccasyms in the last year. The Ninjas were comfy but unable to handle any heel hooking. Unless Boreal have improved the security of the heel cup I wouldn't have another pair. The new Moccasyms are much better- all the feel and comfort of the Ninjas but they stay on.

Might be worth considering the Boreal Cruxes.  I've wide feet and have found Boreal to be the most accommodating, went for the Cruxes after I couldn't get any Ninjas a few years ago and have been through several pairs now.

I've tried the gray Evolvs and more recently some 5.10s blue & grey things not been that impressed as they both stretched relatively easily.  This is less of an issue with the cruxes as the rubber band across the toes means they don' stretch excessively.

I was lusting after a pair having seen yours TomTom but they're already discontinued and rare as hen's teeth in the UK. I've no idea what size to go for (5.10 sizing etc.) so am reluctant to buy off the internet.  :(

So, has anyone used the new ninja?

If so, how many sizes down did you need to go for a good post stretch fit?

I can try and give you some size calibration if you like? (I can cross calibrate my pegs with Anasazi Velcro's and Dragons.. I'll need to look at em first though..) They were a bit stretchy, so I went for smallest I could get into - and they're now perfect..

I'm still undecided. They're £85 in the UK, not exactly the 17 Fuck-alls* you managed to get them for in the US!

*I'm unaware of how much a fuck-all is worth in the current economic climate so this is a rough estimate

I can see why, £85 is a lot for them... they're cheaply made (even by 5:10 standards) with bugger all finishing on the inside.. Even in todays rock shoe hyperinflation £65-70 would be about right... (they were $55-60 in the states - though it was a 20% of all 5:10 shoes day..)

are you listening mr 5:10?? *shakes walking stick in air*

Hitch and Hike at Bamford stock ninjas for 60 quid, they might be able to advise on sizing ?

It would appear I am a lying bastard... not MocassymII's but Supermoccs!! good grief, I get confused by these 5:10 name/shoe/brand blurring... I really like em - but like Galpinos said - £85 sheets is alot for them in my book..

Anyway, my review on bananafingers website states:
Quote
Good shoes - soft and a flat ish toe, not at all bunched. Go small, I'm a 9 in street shoes, 7.5 in Anasazi velcro's and these are a 7...
