Clearance on eBay
May 22, 2011, 09:11:23 pm
I believe a lot of this stuff is surplus stock that was left over after Mountain Intelligence closed down. Some cheap stuff in there.

Dont buy daescents unless you're planning on climbing in em word. They're actually terrible as an approach shoe, no support and lethal on wet grass. Good for climbing and carrying up routes only.

They're amazing for climbing in though, pretty much perfect for popping out to Stanage or Burbage of an evening, or doing long easy alpine routes. In my experience, the old comfort vs performance problem is far better solved with a high performance trainer than a comfy rock boot. I have plenty of rock boots I can't do WSS in, and I wouldn't wear any of them to the pub.

Sizewise, go normal shoe size to a full-size larger.

I have rock shoes for climbing in. The crags are wearing out fast enough without everyone climbing on them in trainers. So say brother Nathan!

Welcome to UKC. What causes erosion is dirty shoes, not the what arbitrary pigeonholes you think the shoes belong in.

Yes, but its easier to clean a pair of shoes before climbing that have been in your bag whilst you walk to the crag than on your feet traipsing through the dirt and mud.  Thats not to say its not impossible, just a lot, lot easier to keep clean a dedicated pair of climbing shoes be that a pair of Daescents or a pair of Anasazi's.

And to be fair the most common use of approach shoes is for easy mountain trad. I think the sheep shit on the bottom of the shoes is probably the least of the worries where that's concerned...

i agree with that too, but setting a precedent for climbing in street shoes leads to even less care and attention being paid to getting stuff off the sole s of shoes before climbing. i 'm sure your soles are clean before you climb whatever you wear but joe climber might not be so scrupulous

Sounds plausible and sensible, but ultimately bollocks. If you're a punter, you won't clean either. If you're clued up, you'll clean them, and you're more likely to take more care over trainers as you expect them to be dirty to start with. How many times do you see folk slip off in rock boots then exclaim 'oh, but I had shit on my shoe!'

Doing things in trainers  (dedicated solely for that and cleaned properly) might encourage less competent people who are less aware of the need to clean their shoes having a go because they've just seen someone else do it and it can't be that hard.

Exactly!

(Thought this was now a UKC-esque thread hence posting inane justifications for anything).

  :please:

I'm fancying the teams. Thing is, I tried on 2 pairs at a demo which both said 7.5 and one was just right and one felt massive. Do you reckon it's worth ordering the 7s in the hope that said small 7.5's had been closer to that? 63 quid for them seems brilliant.

I'm a 39 and a half in scarpa magos if that helps :/

CHEERS and sorry for  :offtopic:
