You know you are gettin old when...
March 24, 2011, 11:25:06 pm
without getting toooo forumy.. thought I'd start something off:

- you realise that the 65p  that you paid for your first pint now wont get you a packet of crisps

- your kids laugh at what a walkman was capable of

- you lived without the internet

- we once bought fuel in galleons

-fuel was 50% off  what it  is was now, not that long ago

-having a nap in the day is now a pleasure, rarely attained, you laughed at this.....

- just how little a pound is worth

- we cant live our lives without email *arriving* all hrs of the day on our phones

- we have mobile devices that get email on them.. our employers regard responses as part of the job, even if it's 3 a.m

- surf forecasts  can be attained on the same mobile device.. and..

- it's usually wrong...

- most state employees used to know fuck all about a competitive marketplace... now they know they are all basically f*cked

- there is now no, or little, benefit to being a state employee

- if we dont add 1p on income tax you can kiss the NHS goodbye

- the NHS free at point of delivery is going.... now

- we are taxed indirectly by school catchment areas

- we let this happen...

- there is no gold left in our coffers... there is no plan B, if the current big society etc does not release monies than we lose all sway in the international money markets... as that is the only thing we make now, regarding global worth the UK is f+cked

other wide ranging, over simplistic comment welcome........

but.... we all seem to be totally f*cked here....

thank God for grit, lime and the shear fun of being alive, able to climb and talk b*llcks on the interenet

Beat me to it!

However, why should there be a benefit to being a state employee over any other employment?  You are employed to do a job and are remunerated for it.  That remuneration may well include pensions and such like, but I don't understand why just because your employers happen to be those who run the country that it should automatically confers additional benefits compared to doing the same job in the private sector (I'd actually expect it to be the other way round if anything).

- when most times you are asked "when did you start climbing?" an accurate answer is "before you were born" ...

And kids who were born after you stated climbing are climbing harder than you ever did already.

Or even "before your dad was born"

You're old when:
You can remember when most of the 8a's in Yorkshire where only 7c+
when the guidebook topos where full of lines instead of a spider's web of variations and link-ups
and when you could go down the climbing wall and crimp instead of pinching on a load of blobby nonsense.
Also add in a load of stuff about real bands, not manufactured, playing their own instruments, price of concert tickets, etc....

One thing I've noticed as I age is that there are more and more members of the opposite sex whom I find attractive.

When you no longer revel in the joys of climbing but focus on the negatives  :jab:   :)

I now dress for the weather which is something I never used to do and even wear a fleece in social situations. I also can't bend down to tie my shoe laces without exhaling a loud "Ooof"

 Not heard of that before (as a side issue the graphic would be easier to read and give a better representation if the scales were the same on the x and y axis).

So when I hit 55, it's "acceptable" to date a 95 year old?

I'm gonna have to get Niks mum to give me his nan's number.
