Again, I'd agree Chris, the evolution of standards is interesting.
I've read back through the thread because I was starting to feel I'd saqid something I didn't mean to. In fact, its only really ianv's posts I disagree with; they are, in my opinion, full of specious bollocks. So to speak.
As an aside, I think Britain in general is a little obsessed with its status and standing in the world and the decline there of. Maybe this debate is a reflection of that in microcosm. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
