The Derbyshire Wildlife Trust (DWT), in conjunction with the BMC's Access and Conservation Trust....are..lay(ing) 50m of boardwalk across the worst section of the path and help is needed humping the materials from the railway bridge past the stepping stones, 300m or so down the dale to the site. An experienced DWT team will do most of the on site work.

How can you help?
Meet Julia Gow of DWT at Millers Dale Station Car Park at 9.30 am on 29 and/or 30 March, or, if you can only come later in the day, make your way to below the Cornice. If you want more details contact Julia Gow on 07761 103 034 or BMC's Henry Folkard on 01298 871 849. Or come on the day and find out for yourself.

 That sounds good and, as climbers are regular users of that path, t'would be good to get involved. Could earn a few useful Brownie points from DWT as well, which would not be a bad thing, in terms of our wider use of the environment. Will put those dates in diary to put some time in. In fact I've just phoned Julia Gow to ask for more details. She told me the work would be going on over a two week period, but the thrust on those 2 days would be to get as much material down from the railway to the site in readiness. She envisages the bulk of the wood being lowered from the bridge and then humped along to the island area. Buxton and Edale Mountain Rescue will be bringing equipment, but anybody with their own ropes and gear would be most welcome. Also anyone with "joinery skills" would be welcome to help at any time.

Was down there with Julia on Tuesday and she showed us the new access points, along the old railway and soon-to-be-opened tunnels from the lower Wormhill car park. Apparently this makes the approach to Cornice/Chee Tor a lot less and will hopefully offset any parking issues that were soon to arise in Wormhill sooner or later.

On a related note, as someone pointed out, Cheedale is really dry already this year. Someone mentioned climbers blocking the footpath under the Cornice last year and it really is apparent when you look. At one point the path narrows a lot. This is where climbers often dump their gear and is under some of the best routes, so you get congestion. On top of this climbers seldom acknowledge or are polite to the walkers whose paths they are blocking, not out of rudeness necessarily, just more absent mindedly. Would be good to try not to obstruct the paths for folk if it is dry again this year.

Yes. The quickest approach to The Cornice will still be from Wormhill.
