Well, there's a nasty coincidence  :-\  my daughter's just had a phone call from her bank about transactions with CRC.  Nothing untoward this time but worth keeping an eye on  :worms:

A guy in my office had a call from his bank this morning asking if the attempted >£1000 transaction for computer equipment from his credit card was him. It wasn't. He was lucky though as £1000 is his his credit limit so the bank spotted it.

He used CRC twice at the weekend.

Was tipped off and read the singletrack/bikeradar threads and got a bit spooked, cancelled my card, regretted the paranoia instantly and then a couple of days ago got an email from amazon confirming an order for a new TV to be paid for on my old card and delivered to a field in Kent so presumably they've made other attempts at stuff too (why on earth they'd register a new amazon account under my own email address (still use an old one for amazon) is beyond me...).

Get them cancelled before you have issues, it only takes a couple of days to get a new card through and it's better that way than risk being stung.

CRC phoned me up yesterday very apologetically, sounds like they've got no clue how it's all happening (my money's on rootkit). They're going to release a statement on their homepage in the next couple of days...

CRC are usually good, there surely got to be fraud from an outside party?

Um. I bought a few things from CRC last year, fortunately not recently.

I noticed then that they didn't seem to be using an external payment services provider, and they didn't use the extended validation of 3Dsecure etc.

I would guess that they have their own in-house payment system, and that it (and/or their networks) wasn't quite as well designed or as well-secured as they thought.

I'd say you have an 86% chance of being wrong (about an outside party)

All the problems I heard about were credit/debit card payments.

So usqe Paypal if you're feeling muy paranoid...

... unless you're so paranoid you don't trust them :tinfoilhat:
