Master Chef, Millstone
January 19, 2011, 09:49:29 am
Question for the new guide: does this start from the floor or the block? I've never done it so don't know.

Thanks

I started it from the floor but had to almost hop up with left foot to weight the right on a high edge

I usually start off the block. Makes more sense for the midget demographic.

I'm pretty sure Kim and I started off the block.

I reasoned that since it has a sitter then starting off the block was not cricket. Anyone done the sitter it looks a lot harder than the stand up?

Not really too sure. Probably cos i didnt want a mate to tell me that i hadn't ticked it so did it the harder way. Not too sure when you are ment to escape on this so topped it out which is well worth doing

Block bounce. Which is probably why it's always seemed p*ss for the grade  :P

Did this again today. For the shorter person starting off the floor probably isn't much harder than the sit. The standard stand is definitely off the block. I'm appalled that people have been dropping off halfway up, no top no tick obviously!

starting half way up off the block, especially bouncing on, is clearly a totally different problem to starting off the deck. What people do at the top makes no odds.

Think one of the guides said to escape into tech baiter. Seen vid when person dropped off also. Topping out isn't too hard and makes the most sense

infact having just watched a vid on youtube, doing it off the block really is about half as much climbing as from the deck.

In the youtube vid its off the block, full on french start, and jump off before you finish. I've not done it this way but something tells me its probably not worth the 7b it gets in the Ru guide

It seems very clear to me:

Dave started off the floor (but probably still a foot higher than most people) but didn't top out. So thems the definitive, gospel rules.

Adam started off the block but topped out. So thems the definitive, gospel rules.

Is there anyone else who would like to chip in a different set of rules in an attempt to avoid a back around call?

Panic over. I've deleted it from the guide.

Just remember - its 2011. The block is about a foot high - it should disappear 'neath your sprawling pad stack anyway. To get on standing you'd need to move them and neatly place a beer towel in the gap.

Isn't the block right under it?

Dave started off the floor (but probably still a foot higher than most people) but didn't top out. So thems the definitive, gospel rules.

Who mentioned rules? My opinion is the problem is better if it starts on the deck, does some quite absorbing and unusual climbing and finishes on the obvious jug/ledge thing at the natural 'woop woop woop woop boulder problem with a nasty block for a landing finishes here' height. Seems to make more sense as a problem than jumping on two thirds of the way through the crux and then questing up some green shit to either downclimb the groove next to it (really classy) or spending 30minutes walking round. But what do I know. I really don't give a shit what other people do, but stuff could do with being documented right. A single 7b grade doesn't seem to cover any of the stand up options particularly well.

Who mentioned rules?

You know full well that's what it's about.

Cofe, why not just ask Johnny (the real one) if he remembers what he did originally?

He's been in the works on all of my recent visits, so I wouldn't have thought you'd need to bother Chris.

He started off the block, and then topped out. Of that you can be damn sure.
