I broke the internet
December 01, 2010, 05:53:31 pm
Basically, a few days ago I logged on to PC at uni, someone had been messing around with windows narrator, and the computer spoke to me.  Not like it was god, it just said the text on the screen.  I turned it off.  However, there is still a problem, it seems like all webpages look a bit odd, like they are low graphics versions or something.  How do I get rid of this?

Here's a picture of facebook to give you an idea.  http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6831/facebookrp.png

That properly made me laugh. :lol:  I have no clue how to fix it though.

Only use IE for windows updates but try this: tools, internet options, advanced, reset internet explorer settings (bottom)

I have got firefox but there's still the same problem using it.  MS word also looks a bit odd.

Tried everyone's ideas but no joy.

More usefully....

....this is very useful information, if the problem persists with more than one application/program then it suggests its not a problem with that program (i.e its NOT the "internet" that is broken).

From the screenshot it may suggest that you've screwed up the display drivers or changed some rendition settings.  Without knowing exactly what you've done its hard to diagnose (especially so for me as I don't use M$-Windoze).  I'd suggest some heavily googling and/or M$-support site itself.  It may be completely unrelated to the windows narrator.

Check to see what updates have been installed between now and when the problem didn't exist.  Try rolling back to an auto-backup before the problem started occurring.

Assuming you're using Vista, everything I've seen seems to give the same solution as I posted in the link above.

I'm not sure whether there's a global method for turning off all accessibility features?

System restore point seems worth a quick punt regardless.

for Win 7;
Control panel
system and security
advanced system properties
performance (settings)
Let window$ choose whats best for my computer.

for Vista;
Control panel
system and maintenance
Performance info and tools
Adjust visual effects
Let window$ choose whats best for my computer.
