shoes for the steep

Taking fit out of the equation, if all are comfy, which is the better performing and most durable shoe when solely used for steep stuff, indoors and out:-
Solution
Jet7
Dragon

I will go for the best fit but if any feel as good as the others I will need some help to swing the decision.

Cheers

Given the number of rockshoes that you own Rich, I'm surprised that any of them ever reach the point of being broken in.

Has anyone ever used 5.10 projects? They look good but I would be quite dubious about only 2mm of rubber. How are they?

They're quite a soft shoe. If the Jet7 last fits your feet then you're golden, if they don't you're not. The lack of more than one strap makes them very easy to pull off your heal.

Taking fit out of the equation

You just can't.

I've found dragons great for steep stuff and whites to be not too far behind but you're going to have to go and try them all on and even then you'll likely buy a duff pair every now and again.

When I said "taking fit out of the equation" I meant if they all fit well.... and they do seem to. Not found a shop near me that stocks Projects but if the last is similar to any of the others and they got a good billing I might give them a shot. Dragons are winning so far after a trying on sesh, though!

the projects are really soft, and concerns about the durability meant a lot of people steered clear, unwilling to take an £85 quid punt. Since they've been on sale in CragX though, all the feedback has been really positive - extremely sensitive and great for pulling in with the toes on steep ground. The 2mm rubber should supposedly last about as long as 3mm rubber on other boots, because they are made with the denser 'Mystique' rubber, rather than Stealth or Onyx etc. This is the same as the sole of the D'aescent approach shoe. Whether this is true remains to be seen, and I'm not sure how long they'd really last on grit.

The dragon has always been popular as a steep route/bouldering shoe. It is quite stiff but softens up a lot over their life span.

Jet-7 a bit softer than the Dragon, but a very good alternative, and currently a steal at 55quid from CragX!
