well the d3100 isn't a patch on the d90 resolution but its more than good enough I think for my needs (its not far off VGA resolution) and its a much smaller and lighter camera which suits me alot better. Its also a big step up from the d50
I think I'm being hopefull in getting a d60 kit for £150, probably more like £200 but one did go the other day for £150ish on ebay.

actually, there is some confusion over lcd resolution as some of the figures are quoted in dots rather than pixels, apparently the d90's lcd is vga = 307200 pixels (640*480) ie 920,000/3.
I wish they would just quote horizontal and vertical pixels, it would make life much simpler.

thinking about, I would prefer just to get the body if I could strip my old d50 kit lens down and get the autofocus working properly again and use that until I could get a decent lens for it.

I don't see any point getting the kit lens when I don't really want it and as soon as I get a half decent lens it won't be used anymore

well for some reason d60's have started selling like hot-cakes and for top dollar on ebay? despite the imminant release of the d3100. does anyone know when the d3100 is being released (apart from the end of sept 2010, which is more or less now)?
debating weather or not to just get a d3100 now.
Definately be getting the nikkor 35mm afs f1.8 to go with which ever camera I get

You make no sense here at all.  Purchasing a new camera if you already owned one is replacing the previously owned one.

Check the start of the thread and there is a subtle clue as to why it needs replacing (i.e. the old one was lost).

Slackline, I got my d90 on ebay, I watched loads of auctions and found that body only, used but with a relatively low shutter count were definately the best value to bid on, and it seemed that not having a box also reduced the other interest in the auction too, definitely worth putting the time in on ebay me thinks.
I also found a really good deal for a 2nd hand d90 body on Amazon but unfortunately got fucked on that one when the seller pulled out, still worth watching though.
I don't know what you're doing with lenses but i took JB's advice and went for a Nikkor 16-85mm which I am super happy with and a 50mm 1.8 prime which again I really love, both on ebay, both really good deals but again only after spending hours of my life watching auctions and tactical bidding.
I ended up getting another awesome (ooh get me..) deal on a 50mm 1.4 so if you want my 1.8 version let me know and we'll strike a deal, it's  mint and boxed.

You have a grace period of around 15-20minutes where a small box on the top right of a previous post says "Modify" (right next to the "Quote" button) so you can rectify any mistakes.

I've only ever bought one photography related item from eBay, which was the 18-200mm VR lens (I wanted to have something that covered a lot of ranges for when taking the camera out on long walks/walk-ins).  Purchased from Digital Revolution via fleabay.  They're Hong Kong based and completely fucked everything up, lens went to the wrong address, poor communication, and various other niggles.  I vowed never to use them again.

I too have a D90 since upgrading earlier in the year from a D50 (passed onto my brother).  Very nice camera.  Saving for some quality primes now (likely to take ages at the rate I save for luxuries!).

Cheers for that Jim Slackline, good knowledge on the Ebay Hong Kong tip, I should have mentioned that, I've been there myself (not literally ) and it's a load of bollocks often ending up costing more and like you say a load of hassel. I think if you stick to UK sellers it's still worth looking into and I haven't had any real problems since. It's always a little bit of a gamble I suppose but I try to get some extra confirmation about the item description from the seller before I buy which seems to help weed out any potential problems.

If you're interested in the 50mm 1.8 prime then give me a shout. It's an awesome lens for the price and for me it was an ideal first prime, lovely to use, I'm only selling because I managed to get the 1.4 for a steal.
