Lightroom 3 Beta now available to try, just in case anyone else on here uses the world's best photo management and RAW processing softwareTM.

Hmm. You can't use a previous catalogue. In that case it's really just for testing, I'm not starting again...

Perhaps thats why its a beta release ;)

they did that with the version 2 beta. it's fair enough. i'll try it on a few images and see how it handles.

Noise reduction and improved RAW algorithms seem good. If the final version has correction for barrel/ pincushion distortion and soft proofing I'll be happily handing over hard cash.

Have they patched support together for Linux yet?

I was in the process of moving from iView to Aperture.

Aperture can't do what I really want though (at least I don't think it can), which is tethered shooting that allows you to view the shot with a decent grid - a bit like the Photoshop View>Show>Grid screen.

Basically, I want the equivalent of seeing the shot through an artificial ground glass screen with horizontal and vertical lines.

Can you do that with Lightroom?

sounds like something Capture One would do, no? I have no idea if it does…

Ta, I will study later...

As an aside, have you ever hired a digital back for your MF camera? I've been thinking about borrowing a Phase One. I assume you could import those files via Lightroom rather than Capture One...

(I've got Capture One LE, but I've never really bothered using it.)

No, I've got a Mamiya 645protl which is the manual focus version, I don't think any of the backs are compatible.

Since the D3x etc were released second-hand prices are tumbling though. I'm seriously thinking of swapping the body for the AFD and getting a P25. Another six months to a year and they should be pretty affordable - 3-4k now.

Capture one/ Phase one integration is supposed to be pretty good.

They were like 15 grand a couple of years back. Wow...

I just want super big clean images for some poster-sized (around A2) specsheets. I was going to do it on film, but when you add up all the scanning required it'll probably end up cheaper to hire a P+65 for 2 days.

Yeah, I use a Blad.

I've going to see the hire people as they've not tested Phase One backs with the Flex Body.

I might try a 903SWC too - they're meant to be the shit.

Smaller, older sensor, but only £1500!

Like I said, another year and these will be worth fuck all, just because a Sony whatever has more pixels... crazy.
