I've got a Sony Walkman mp3 player (not a phone) which doesn't do gapless playback, so I'd be surprised if the phones do. It is from the previous generation of models though, the latest might be different.

With regards to network and tariff, are you open to moving? Most networks offer inclusive data or you can add it as a bundle. The one thing you have in your favour is loyalty which can get you a good deal. As mentioned by someone else earlier, get in touch with the retentions department and threaten to leave. Best time to do it is at the end of the month as they all want to hit their targets. It is amazing what deals are arranged at the end of the month over the phone.

Just been on the blower to the network. got the phone on a deal which all told will be costing me £5 less a month than i've been paying, plus with a better phone. However despite pulling out all the stops they wouldn't essentially give me any better deal than any new customer would, despite me having been with the same network for 7 years and paying over the odds for the last 2. I used all the negotiating tricks, the stony uncomfortable silence, the cheeky ask, waiting till near the end of month, plus saying I wanted to cancel my contract and move networks not only did they not then put me onto the disconnection dept for a better deal, they just cancelled it there and then so i had to rapidly backpedal whilst looking like a twat. What made the whole thing worse is that i first phoned up and spoke to some soppy cow who said i could have XYZ price plan and give me free internet for a month, then i phoned back after researching the deal for a half hour and the misserable scottish hardball sod i get refuses to even honour the previous offer of months free internet. fucking IrnBru-loving muthafucker. fucking bunch of cunts "i'll give you a set of free speakers". Nice - next thing paul mccartney is offering to give me a hundered top hats.

Oh buggger, sounds like not much joy was had. Have you resigned with them then?

The best deal we currently do is the Sony W995. Free on £29.36 per month over 24 months. For this you'll get 600 cross net mins, unlimited texts, 500mb of data and inclusive sat nav that is actually really good. Depending what you do for a living you may well be able to get it cheaper than £29.36. Worm has just got one of these deals and is chuffed. You also get a free tube speaker and 60 downloadable movies. It is a sweet deal.

Can't quite remember best deal on Nokia 5800 at present. Will let you know tomorrow if you want?

word, got phone today. Converting contacts from old phone to new is a ballache with classic nokia bullshit software. Phone seems promising, am posting this from the phone via wireless LAN. Pretty fly. I feel like Buck Rogers up in this muthafucker.

word, if anyone knows any decent s60 apps n shit then holler. Also a way of preventing it from trying to access tinternet via mobile network (thus stopping me accidentally spending ££) would be good.

what phone did you get then dave (apart from an s60v3 nokia)?
I've got s60v3 apps coming out of my ears.
to avoid data charges, phone up your network and tell them to bar data. also go to setting - connection - GSM mode

aye.

good idea about getting network to block the data/tinternet. i can always get it turned on if/when i need it. I would have thought with the number of places having wifi available then the only places you're not likely to be able to find an unencrypted connection these days are the kinds of places you'll probably have no mobile reception anyway (i.e. the arse end of scotland etc).

anyone know what kinda skills you need to be packing to actually write your own S60 apps?

something that tells you the exact battery % remaining (like is standard on Sonys) would be handy, if such a thing exists.

What about shaking your phone and having the remaining battery power left, or a more basic Battery monitor.

Manage your battery power according to different profiles.

Tons of stuff out there, you just need to  :google: a bit harder than normal.
