MP's expenses fraud
May 08, 2009, 04:51:13 pm
This is not a party political broadcast.

I'm sure there are many mP's of all parties who have been misclaimingexpenses in a fraudulent manner, but Jack Straw can in my view no longer properly remain as Justice Secretary after claiming 100% of his council tax after applying for a 50% rebate.  For he can only have filled in the expenses form after receiving the council tax bill which would have shown both the correct (discounted) amount and that he was receiving the discount.

I have seen matters proceed to conviction on similar evidence and the defence of 'well I was busy' just simply won't wash.

If Conservative MP's have behaved in a similar manner then they too should be investigated and charged as appropriately.

I'm more interested in the 2 bog seats debacle.

Did he not pay back the extra money claimed well before this "scandal" all came to light?

No, only when he'd been told the claim would be made public.

If you get a bill for x and you claim 2x then that's bent, there's no grey area it's not as if he claimed a bog seat when he didn't need to; he got a bill for a certain amount and doubled it.  That is not an oversight, that is not a sloppy admin system, it's not claiming one home is your second home even though you spend 5 nights a week there, its simply bent.

I see no rational alternative than the public burning (KKK style) of Straw live on TV to the sound of childrens' laughter.

Harriet Harman hit a new low on Today when she said " We do not have the same level of corruption that obtains in many other countries " .... Not a " sorry that you the Great British public have employed a bunch of self serving scum who have been milking the system for all they can 'legally' get away with " , but a thank your lucky stars that you don't live in Zimbabwe .... Instead of changing the expenses system , maybe we should just sack the whole fucking lot of them and start afresh .....

Bunch of self serving cnts who really couldnt give a toss about the people they SERVE! Labour, tory, lib dem...there all at it. As a journo said this weekend(Daily mail one at that..who would of thought it!) if this was someone on benefits then they would be investigated and most probably get a criminal conviction/jailed.
As Billy Connelly said, the desire to be a politician should instantly rule you out from being one

"If you know that it's wrong now, then surely you knew it was wrong when you were spending my money doing up houses you bought with my money and then dodging capital gains tax even though you'd still have made a tidy profit and would, at least, have been able to return some of my money. You nauseatingly rancid lump of pox-ridden, cock-sucking pigshit"

The daily mash is awesome. Thanks Slackers.

Hopefully he'll be pursuaded to apply to the chiltern hundreds or at the very minimum lose the whip and be deselected; as I said not a party politicla issue and this is tantamount to fraud/tax evasion.

I'm not surprised by any of this to be honest....

MP's = Thieves, Liars and Cheats.
Houses of Parliament = Kids Playground

Honestly, did any of us expect them to have done the 'right thing'?

Yes, I rather expected more particularly from those who were wealthy to start with.

Here's the 'green book' he refers to
http://www.parliament.uk/documents/upload/GreenBook.pdf

They can't exactly claim it's not clearly written...
Quote
Principles governing Members’ allowances

The following questions are designed to assist Members in
coming to a decision about whether or not costs incurred are
appropriate to be met from the allowances:

Is this expense genuinely incurred by me in my role as a
Member of Parliament as opposed to my personal capacity?

Is this purchase supporting me in carrying out my
parliamentary duties? Defining parliamentary duties is difficult
but Members may wish to consider (i) the generally accepted
parliamentary functions: the legislative role; the oversight and
accountability role; and the representative role, including
dealing with constituents’ problems and (ii) obligations they
may have, for example as a small employer. Anything which is
done for personal benefit or for electioneering or for the direct
support of a political party will not be part of a Member’s
parliamentary duties.

Does the claim match the purpose of the allowance in question
as set out later in the Green Book?

Could the claim in any way damage the reputation of
Parliament or its Members?

How comfortable do I feel with the knowledge that my claim
will be available to the public under Freedom of Information?

amusing and very true... the bloody lot of em should be doing community service,... make em pick up dog shit and chewing gum from all public places... at least we might get some good out of the theiving twats...
Is it only me that thinks if they are saying thay will give their expenses back, they therefore admit they were claimed wrongly, urgo illegally and urgo they are guilty, therefore we don't need to waste any more money investigating this , just dish out suitable punishments  :furious:

Is that geordie for "ergo"?

Community service is an ace idea - to be carried out after they have lost their seats and are not being paid to serve us.

Interesting, Mr Brown seems to think that not paying capital gains tax isn't breaking the law.  :-\
