Stanage prow?
October 11, 2009, 08:26:14 pm
Down below D.I.Y. and Poundland, there's a steep heels-and-slaps prow thing. What is it? Did it today and thought it was really good.

That's what I wondered, but the only one I can find details about is at Central buttress, which seems to involve jumping to a lip and then taking your pick of 6c or 7a+ finishes.

The one we did today was a sitstart into hug-slapping fun and a juggy top. Spotter needed though.

The Hippo? Peak Bouldering p.149 is your friend. And contrary to the opinion expressed in the book, I thought it well worth the walk over.

Yep, this is the Hippo. I agree with Mark, it's a decent problem. I did it a while ago but some how convinced myself that the "supporting" block at the bottom would be in. It was really scrittley then, and quite grim scraping off into nasty tumbles. I then found out the block wasn't in, and did it again properly a few weeks ago. It's cleaned up loads, and is much better without the block. If you've done all the DIY stuff and you're waiting for your mates it's definitely worth a play.

Cheers for that. I thought it was really good. Scrittle definitely wasn't an issue. I wouldn't have wanted to do it on my own, but with a couple of spotters it seemed pretty safe. Lovely stuff!
