The best grit climber....ever?

Lets have em.. whom is the greatest grit climber of all time? Theres a fair old few to pick from:

Johnny Dawes for his (at the time) state of the art routes like Gaia, Braille Traille and Smoked salmon. (one handed ascent of masters edge????)

Big Ron, Masters Edge in '83... awesome, Toy Boy, careless Torque! need i say more?

John Allen for all those crazy E5s that still dont see regular onsight ascents, the guy who kicked off hard grit!

Jerry Moffat, early repeats of all the desperates, then doing routes like Messiah, Ulysees, Samson...probably the hardest grit route around although by no means the scariest. A huge variety of FAs of hard bouder problems to his name aswell.

More recently Ben Heason, pretty nuch repeating everything ever done, quickly and in excellent style.

Think Johnny would get my vote just because of the lines he climbed...quality, mainly onsight well before other people were doing it.

I don't think you can pick one greatest climber - they were all at the top of their game in their own respective era's.

Let's not forget Brown/Whillans/Bancroft/Mitchell/Woodward/Dunne/Barker/Grieve/Nadin/etc/etc.

In terms of difficulty, you've got to have Nadin and Dunne in there.....

I think Dawes was the furthest ahead of his time

The recent E10s are not, and if anything are a step backward in style.
With Grit fast running out we should be looking to improve on that.

I think we should leave plenty for future generations to do, rather than doing it in an 'at all costs' style now. I don't believe the current cutting edge will seem very impressive in 20 years time.

The main man on grit is Ron "Big Ron" Fawcett, no question. He's a proper nice bloke, not a hint of arrogance or self-obbsessivness. I love ron.

I agree.

To see him running through the plantation, his huge hands flopping by his knees, is to be warmed to the cockles of your heart.

His footwork could be better though. Still, it got him up toyboy.

Simon Nadin is the daddy without question.  He could still burn most people of now.
Cheers
