Awesome Walls Woody
January 02, 2007, 11:12:21 pm
I just got completely spanked on the Awesome Walls woodie. I quickly scurried back downstairs where I belong with the mortals. Just out of interest what sort of grade does something "easy" get on that wall.

Saw Andy F as well. Would have said hi but didnt recognise him at first and then when it clicked he was looking gripped halfway up a lead route. Hiya!

seems to be quite highly graded i think. there were loads of probs i fancied but thought they were hard for the grade. Anyone got any info on how well graded other walls are? (high or low in the grade)

the boulder uk system (so so i have worked out)
they grade from v0 - v8

v0 - v7 about bang on.
v8 can mean anything above v8 (sometimes it will feel like way above).

sometimes there is a v9. i have not tried one of these. they must be tough.

I'm assuming you both looked through the recent problems book from the counter? It's suggested at the start of the book that  problem setters should avoid citing grades for problems and instead comment on whether it be 'easy 'middlin' or 'hard'. I think it's probably better to try and offer a ballpond suggested grade. The three aforementioned terms are all of course subjective; what's hard for one isn't at all hard for another. And if you're not sure at all of what you've done, perhaps leave it blank and let someone else suggest a grade. You can always pull them up on it sometime and give them a clout round the earole! I'm happy to clout any sandbaggers for you by the way  ;)

And for a little surprise left by a forum reprobate, check the back pages. The little blighter...

You'll find directions under the 'how to find us' link.

10 heaton street.

just off of king street. it is worth getting directions. i think the site has some. www.boulderuk.info

easy to find if you know how, the one way system around the units that it is in are a nightmare. you are in the right place if there is a church spire but no church, and there is a salvation army place there.

I put all mine as easy Will as I don't like to overgrade  ;) But I generally compare them to some other peoples problems I had tried and found mine easier but it is as Tom said, quite subjective! Wish my dodgy autocrimp tendon wasn't so bad or i would be up there setting some 'middlin' problems

The hardest problems when I was there were up to v7. Sharma's Scream or something named like that was probably font 7A. The problems really aren't hard, in fact, there aren't any hard ones. If you're not used to climbing on an overhang plywood board then it might seem difficult at first but with some perseverance you'll find the problems are indeeed easy.

n.b. I haven't been in a month, so someone could have added some sick hard problems although quite how that would be possible without an entirely new hold set is beyond me.  ;)

As a side note, a building near to them has scaffolding round, which means Clayton Street is shut, and so is the lower part of Heaton Street.  This doesn't change the directions on the website, but would matter if you came from the other direction and had looked on the map how to get there.

I had trouble finding it the first time, but I hadn't taken a map with me.  It's where the n in Heaton Street is on
