Saw it with a friend at uni when we were both pretty blase about horror and stuff.

Fucked our shit up, had to play Quake for 4 hours straight afterwards before I could go to sleep...

Funnily enough this keeps getting mentioned on gaming nerd forums (who are usually even more even blase about horror and stuff, goatse posters on their wall, gore websites as their home page etc etc) as something that people found truly freaky...

Yeah i can't remember it fully but I do recall it being full of some crazy wire suspended shit that was a tad grotesque for delicate eyes.

I was taken to see it in the cinema when it first came out, not really knowing what I was letting myself in for. Freaked me out big time, especially the above mentioned evisceration / suspension scene.

Only Wolf Creek has bothered me as much since.

Scariest film I've ever seen  :o

I actually thought Wolf Creek was pretty funny, but maybe that's just me.....

I liked it.  Gore, but reasonably tasteful flashes that remind me of Clive Barkers' Books of Blood.

It gives you a quick flash into Reever World.

That's the one.  What do Reevers do when they want to chill, take time out from raping lunch to death, n'shit?  Hardest Job in The Solar System etc..

Event Horizon

Saw it years ago in the cinema and forgot about it instantly... Slept like a baby afterwards (probably caned admittedly.)

May be worth a second viewing before I cast too many aspersions though- cos I was a film studies bore at time of viewing.

Serenity (and also Firefly obviously) are freakin' sweet.

My god, I'm turning into a sci fi bore!

I watched about half of serenity and had to switch it off, which i rarely do with films.. It felt like an extended episode of an 80s sci fi TV programme. Was that intenional? I know firefly was some series, but i thought it fairly recent.

Firefly- the tv series (there was only one made cos the fox network didn't recomission it despite a hardcore fanbase's best efforts) is well worth renting and spending a cheap weekend in. It's kind of spaghetti western meets space road buddy grift thing. Serenity then fills in the backstory to the film as well dealing with the mystery behind the kickass Reavers - think star trek's the borg collective on steriods and PCP.

I'm such a scifi geek!

Yes, Firefly is very good. Such a shame it was cancelled, but the series manages to develop some interesting characters and create some nice moments. Watched one of the episodes with a few friends who'd never seen it, and they were impressed - they work well as self-contained stories, though even better in context. Serenity is crap unless watched as the final episode of Firefly, in which case it's a nice way to finish, but not the best episode.

Event Horizon - Didn't really scare me either. Not a patch on Alien.

I think the film which has made me shit myself the most in recent years was what lies beneath, just the number of sudden shocks in it kept me on the edge of my seat, and there's something about dead chicks in water that fucks me right up.

Yeah, I saw a dead duckling in a pond once too. Really upset me.
