soft hands need stump cream
September 06, 2006, 08:04:29 am
Hi,

right - after 3 years off climbing i'm well pysched to get back. (some drunken bets havent helped).

My problem is baby soft skin, not helped by a job where I wash my hand 30 times a day.

SO, i've heard rumours of stump cream that toughens up yr hands a treat, and of some creams good to promote healing. I know of hoofmaker for skin growth, but it's the toughening up stuff i/m most keen on.
Anyone got any info / experience of this stuff??

ta!

Surgical spirit, followed by moisturiser.  Moisturiser crucial if you go down the hoof unguent route.

Rough them up with anything abrasive.  Play with bricks.  Glue little slashes/holes with superglue.  And armwrestling always helps.  Good luck.

if by stump cream you mean anti hydral.yes it does harden your skin but it can cause splits across the creases where your joints are.also you need to use alot of moisturiser after you've used it.

Anti hydral is the business for drying out and hardening skin. When i first got it i went a bit mad and used it nearly every day... big mistake - got some really thick skin and some really big splits. Now i use it about twice a week, the night before a climbing day and my skin feels good, thick and dry and no splits for two years! The common consensus is to rub into your tips (keep it away from the creases) and leave it to dry. Some people leave it on all night but i tend to wash it off after about 30 mins and this seems to work just as well and helps avoid splits. Its been mentioned loads of times on this site.. if you do a search you'll get loads of info.

I got mine from here

Stick anthydral in the produktsuche and you should find it tho i needed a babelfish translation to work it out. One tube has lasted 3 years so far and its probably got 5 years left in it still.

http://www.robugen.de/PDF/antihydral.pdf#search=%22antihydral%22

also available here. careful though as it can make your skin very shiny, pretty counter-productive really

climb on is shit. I never use it anymore. now elizibeth arden 8 hour is the shit. swear down. not cheap tho but by far the best moisturiser by a long long way. cocoa butter is very good for daily use and cheap. just get climbing, don't use stump cream unless your on a road trip. sand and moisturise after every session. your skin will return to its former glory in a few months, especially with the winter grit season aproaching
Can't fucking wait

The climb on bar is not shit if you only use it for healing nicks/abrasions.  Don't rate it's moiturising quotient.  I've no idea if it'll work on piles.

I've used Antihydral...it's pretty good stuff. I've not suffered any cracked skin though. I apply before I go to kip and wash it off in the morning. 1 or 2 applications in the week is enough to last a week. No more weeping fingers! I guess how often you apply depends on what your skin is telling you. Well worth buying a tube though.
