Hep B jabs
September 18, 2006, 07:44:15 pm
Just been told that I need Hep B 'immunity' (yes, I know, but try explaining anything to a civil servant), and have heard all osrts of weird and wonderful stories about the side affects of the jabs. Rather than relying on rumour, I know there's the odd medic here so I thought I'd rely on well placed rumour instead.

So anyone got any personal knowledge?

You should have a Hepatitis jab.  Just in case.  Transmitted in body fluids/transfusions/filthy tatooists/and by all midget prostitutes in Blackpool etc..  I know you are married so you won't need to worry (unless your partner is not immunised & you are both addicted to adultery).  I'm sure there are other reasons too.  But you never know.  eg.  You are travelling somewhere and need emergence dental work and come into contact with unsterilized equipment etc.. etc..

It's not much cash.  And worth it for piece of mind.  (Sorry not a Doc just did too much immunology at school).

Don't wan't you getting hepatic cancer/cirrhosis now do we? Ask wiki.

I reckon Houdini is on the money there- I was warned as a barman to avoid carrying many glasses by putting fingers inside the rim due to the infection risk. It may cause your arm to hurt like fuck for a while and go green, but I can't imagine it being too bad.

Is there no info. on the Home Office website or similar?

OK,

yep,

i'm a Dr, (hence the FATDOC).....yep i'm not thin either!!!

GET THE JABS

why???

no serious side effects reported (every NHS worker has this done, with no significant side effect profile).... no MMR type around this one... it's a no brainer.

Dont wanna get tooo exictable    but   I've seen 20 yr olds with no risk factors DIE of Hep B. The vaccination has been used on millions (really) with only a sore arm or so to write home about. as long as you are well whan it's administered then it's fine...... honest!

I had the Hep B vaccination last year. It was done as a course of three injections. One, then the second a month later and a third five months after that. No side effects at all, I was cimbing the same day or the day after each one. Don't think my GP charged me anything either.

if you are at risk get the course done.
hep b is a horrible disease and worse than hiv  to die from.
get your 3 jabs and make sure your titre levels are checked within  3 months after your final jab.
it is more contractible than hiv....
i've worked in liver transplant unit and intensive care for over ten years. so i do think i have some knowledge about this subject.
checking titre levels is important as it determines if the course was effective. some people like my self may need further drug therapies to attain sufficient coverage.

Had mine done years ago cos I was working with nasty kids that were likely to bite. No side efeects at all. I didn't get charged for it as it was necessary in a high risk job. Are they just charging you because its for travelling? That seems pretty mean.

I was warned as a barman to avoid carrying many glasses by putting fingers inside the rim due to the infection risk.

Jesus, never thought of that when I worked as a glass collector in Leeds. Is this a common way for it to be spread?
