I would wait a few more months, Font will be roasting so unless you like sunbathing, I would go in october-march. As for the beta, In my opinion, the best thing to do is to take a car with 4 people, go accross on the fery and stay in a gite. It takes 3 to 4 hours from sheffield to dover, ~2 hours for all the ferry shit, and then another 3ish hours to font from calais. Ferry normaly costs about £60 and if you go in the low/mid season (oct - mar) then you can get a gite for about £40 to £50 pp/pw.
