Dave MacLeod & Nic Sellers Lecture
March 02, 2005, 12:39:20 pm
Dave MacLeod, hailed by OTE as Britain's best all round climber, will provide the entertainment for the penultimate Heason Events lecture in Sheffield with a round up of Scottish climbing, including discussion on his recent winter ascent of The Hurting. Dave has graded the route XI, 11 and tentatively suggested that it may be the hardest single pitch traditional mixed climb in the world!

He will be accompanied by Nic Sellars with a talk about his route 'Amygdala' on Lundy Island, with another set of stunning images set to music, from Alex Messenger. The half time raffle will be sponsored by Wonky.

8pm, Sunday 13th March, Lescar Hotel, Sheffield. Please arrive by 7.30pm

Tickets £6 on the door or £5.50 from:

Was there, was good.

Alex M's photos were pretty good, wasn't close enough to get the full effect though.

Nic's bit was pretty nice, some good shots and some good tales. I think he should have given a bit more background information and put some of the climbs into context to try to elevate his talk above the "here's some hard routes I did on holiday" business.

Dave's bit was good and well rounded with a variety of tales and quite a bit of inspiration, he's a good salesman for Scotland. It was a pity Alchemie wasn't included as a trad highpoint, and his talk did tail off towards the end - he needed more slides of the winter stuff to keep it exciting. Other than that I enjoyed it, and both the videos were great - the first was consistently well done and actually made redpointing interesting, although the final success was poorly filmed. The second with the ice-climbing was very cool, quite an eye-opener seeing someone cut loose on one tool in a huge roof or hang off a double heel-crampon hook "rest".

So yeah, well worth it I thought.

Hi Fiend,
Thanks for the feedback. It's always welcome and only serves to make it easier to organise future events. Glad you enjoyed it and I'll let Dave, Nic and Alex know.

Cheers,
Matt
