Judging by the tumbleweeds from the last post on this thread, there may be little point in asking: but has anyone got any climbing contacts in Tenerife? I'm going with the family in August and would be keen for a day or two of DWS or sport if it's not totally out of the question temps-wise. My backup option is just to pay a guide for the day.

If you get really desperate there an old bridge near Adeje that has holds bolted onto it. Obvs is shady. About 50m long from what i can remember.

Happy to send pin

To cut short a long story of fear and desperation, I got up the chimney, fixed one of my ropes so I’d never have to do it again as long as I lived, and knocked off for the day.

Not selling it..

Great write-up! Sounds absolutely awful.

Reckon I'll get in touch with Roxtar and Ocho and see what they advise/offer. Will report back if I manage anything, but I think a free solo of Los Gigantes is not on the cards.

We went for a snorkling boat trip under Los Gigantes.. flipping amazing.. saw a sea horse up close and a massive portuguese man of war...  :jaw:  (was reminded about that last night by my son whist watching the Cold play set at glasto)

I did snorkelling for the first time in Menorca last year. Loved it, but I was not prepared for how shit up I'd be by even medium sized jellyfish. Think a man of war might have sent me packing!

You sometimes get small PMoW round here, along with the usual moon jellies. Was one in the waves when surfing Aberdeen once.

The cliffs below Los Cristianos are meant to be good too, be careful of swell though.

(sorry going a bit OT)

+1 for Erik Baquero and Ocho Escalada. I went out with one of their guides (Juan Lancelote - what a name!) yesterday for four hours' sport climbing, which was enough to do a bit of holiday maintenance and feel like I'd sampled some local rock in the middle of my resort/pool/beach holiday with the kids.

It was 140 euros (plus I hired a car for the day to get there), which wouldn't be worth it for everyone, but for me it was money well spent. We went to Arico Gorge, which had hundreds of routes across a good range of grades (loads 6b - 8a in the sector we went to) and had sun or shade on demand. It was warm - mid-twenties - but probably still better Connie's than a still summer day at Kilnsey, given the low humidity. Super easy access, quite a few pigeon nests/poo on routes (the local bugbear), good range of styles and some nice lines.

Would go again, even in August.
