Wrights Rock, Churnet
December 14, 2004, 05:34:20 pm
Being occupationally challenged, i thought i'd head into the Valley and up to wrights rock. I am kinda local but haven't been for a couple of weeks, and i'm sure the amout of chalked holds has doubled since my last visit or any previous one. There now appears to be a new start, middle and end to all the original problems. Now i'm not complaining in the slightest but i almost needed a Rockfax style hold numbering system to figure out where i was going!
Firstly congratulations to the eager beavers who've been doing all the eliminating
and secondly i was wondering how the guys writting the new guide coped with the masses of holds (thats assuming it's in)
Now that it appears Churnet is THE place to be, it'll have to be added to the next petzel roc trip agenda!!

:D  Churnet is the way ahead  :D

The only reason to return to Stoke over the Christmas holidays!

Is it true keele wall has been closed or had access limited (sorry to divert the post on the second post  )?

No idea about Keele wall. I was always told it was a bit cack, so never went. I have friends at the uni so i'll ask them.

The universitys climbing club website hasn't been updated since 2000. I'll report back later. (hopefully with more info!)

ye, one of my old college mates runs the site (url has changed from the one in my signature though....)

Apparently from what i understand the Uni club complained about the poor quality of the mats so the Union closed the wall.....now thats what i call shooting yourself in the foot..... it may be reopening despite its crappiness......oh well..... not really losing much.....

i used to go there quite often when i was trapped in Stoke - it ain't much but with a bit of creativity some fun problems can be made
